Attendance at Big Chill

Submitted by mwolverineforlife on

Ok, does anybody else find it funny that we packed more people in for a hockey game, than we ever have for a football game?  There wasn't standing room only, yet about 400 more people came than against UConn, where the previous record was set. Obviously, everyone wanted to see the Big Chill, but you think we would have broken the record again during football season.

I wasn't at the Big Chill, but a panoramic "360 Degrees of the Big Chill" shot taken by a Free Press photographer certainly gives the impression of a full house.

EDIT: Can't include a link because it will convert to a print page but have converted to a tinyurl: http://tinyurl.com/2apc6y3 (warning: will open a regular--not print--Free Press page).

It's worth checking out.

Early on it looked like there were some empty seats in the student section. By the end of the game it definitely looked like the stadium was full. I am still skeptical there were more people there than at the UCONN game.

Don't they get the attendance based off the turnstiles at the gates plus all the stadium staff, media, teams, etc? I don't think they base it off of ticket sales + staff and players.

So let me get this straight:

The Hockey number HAD to be fraudulent because people are eyeballing it, but the number announced for Football HAD to be accurate, because....?

It isn't disrespectful to the Football program. It's impressive for the University of Michigan and her fans. To claim Hockey's successful moment is somehow a slight on the Football program is insane and an attempt to drive an imaginary wedge between the programs.

Also, we could have broken 113,500 if MSU had bothered to send a real band to the event. We gave them bleacher space for a band three times what they sent.
