OT: Final Olympic Medal Count/Olympic wrap up
Nation G S B Total
UNITED STATES 9 15 13 37
GERMANY 10 13 7 30
CANADA 14 7 5 26
NORWAY 9 8 6 23
AUSTRIA 4 6 6 16
RUSSIAN FEDERATION 3 5 7 15
KOREA 6 6 2 14
CHINA 5 2 4 11
Set US and world records for most medals. And on a standard 3-2-1 point attributing USA totalled 70, Germany 63, and Canada 61, so come out on top on the totality of it all too (which wasn't necessarily the case in China even though we had the most medals. Canada had a great last weekend to turn their Olympics from a disaster to one they can be proud of (assuming they can get the Olympic flame to shut off tonight....I kid! I kid!). Germany, which had athletes say they only care about gold, unlike North Americans, I guess comes away with nothing, because they didn't get the most gold or the most medals.
So, watch the closing, get ready for the post Olympic blues, and at least we don't have to wait 2 years for our next international sporting event with World Cup this summer.

SHATNER!

Great closing ceremony.

Are there any Canadians that matter in these Ceremonies that don't live in America and/or have American citizenship? Wayne, Stevie, Shat...now Catherine O'Hara...they all train here...reminds me about what Bo said about what kind of players leave Ohio for Michigan....
Edit: Michael J. Fox..."I've lived in the United States for 30 years..." but yeah, you can still claim me, I'm the best you've got...

I might find the inflatable Mounties amusing.
Edt: but table top hockey rules! Though we didn't need another Crosby reference, Bob.

"The always enjoyable giant inflatable beaver."
Oh no he didn't!

Going to cut away from the Closing Ceremony to show The Marriage Ref? Really? Really? Fuck you, NBC.
February 28th, 2010 at 10:45 PM ^
Don't worry, they are coming back in time to show the great Canadian music talent of Nickelback
February 28th, 2010 at 10:50 PM ^
I think the marriage ref is hilarious. The guy who stuffed his dog was beyond creepy.
February 28th, 2010 at 11:06 PM ^
I guess I'm still pissed at Seinfeld for ripping Conan for whining about getting pushed out because he wasn't getting the ratings, when he was really saying I have a tv show that's been shit-canned, but will see the light of day if NBC is suddenly desperate for 5 hours of programming a week because Leno moves back. Dick move.
February 28th, 2010 at 10:50 PM ^
Still, I'd rather listen to Nickelback than watch The Marriage Ref. Ugh.
But then I might rather scrape an eye out with a rusty spoon than either.

Oh, and please be sure all of your team members and their coaches make it to the airport on time for their flights back to The States. Now that you are finished with them, we need them back. The Wings, for example, do have a game tomorrow.
February 28th, 2010 at 11:07 PM ^
as a Canadian, that was horrific (except for Neil Young, that was great). Please don't judge us.
Eh, I always find Closing Ceremonies deteriorate to a high level of cheese (vs. The Opening Ceremony). This one was no worse. The only part that fell flat was the comedy bit, which felt like what 60 year old writers think was funny (what they made Catherine O'Hara say made me feel bad for her). But who doesn't like giant inflatable beavers?
Edit: OK, you can apologize for Hedley, I'll accept it for that...

And "Avatar" Jim McKay back to host them? The rights are coming up. They HAVE the technology. Faster. Stronger.
If they can get back the rights to "Bugler's Dream" (which used to belong to ABC) and the John Williams Olympic theme, I'm all for it. The music is the one thing I like about NBC's coverage.
February 28th, 2010 at 11:55 PM ^
And sounding good.
Yet now they decide to start their interviews, instead of during Nickelback.
How many ways can NBC suck?

Just a fun way to end it all. Good night everybody. See you in London.
A fine olympic showing for my neighbors to the south. New record for most medals and a very impressive showing for your hockey team.
I know after coming so close to winning the gold it is hard to be excited about much, but you guys were picked to finish 6th. There were two teams in this tournament that were head and shoulders above the rest and that was Canada and the USA.
Lots of games are close on the score board but not in the actual gameplay. This was close on both counts and could have just as easily been a victory for the USA.
You guys should be proud of the state of hockey in the USA with a silver medal in the olympics and a gold at the iihf world juniors. The future is bright for hockey in the USA.
I am pretty happy that it looks like the two major players in international hockey are from North America. Congrats again to the USA!
But then as we were told last night ad nauseum, that's how Canadians are, eh?
Seriously, though -- that was a gracious take on the hockey tournament/final and future of USA Hockey. +1 to you, sir.
I'd also say that the spot that NBC ran on Saturday about how Gander responded to the 7,000 passengers that flooded their town of 10,000 on 9/11 was incredibly moving. It certainly put a new focus on the the incredible CAN-AM bond that exists between our two nations.
Great Olympics.
