Did anyone watch Army yesterday?

Surprised this hasn’t been mentioned. They’re on our schedule next season, they return 19 starters, they won 11 games and they absolutely destroyed Houston. They don’t throw crossing routes though so maybe we’ll be OK.

Michigan and Army haven't played each other in over 50 years. The series began in the mid-forties when Army of Blanchard-Davis fame was a national powerhouse, and Michigan was home to a V-12 officer training program. That program brought a number of elite athletes to Michigan, including Elroy ("Crazy Legs") Hirsch from Wisconsin and the Elliot brothers from Illinois. During the war years Michigan had what amounted to a Western Conference (as it was known before MSU joined and became the BIG) all-star team. But during the five times the teams met from 1945 to 1954 Michigan could not win, although the scores were often close. The teams met again four times from 1955 to 1962, with Michigan winning all four.

Note that Michigan scheduled the Air Force Academy a couple seasons ago, which is a continuation of that service academy tradition. Michigan and Navy have played 18 times, with Michigan holding a 12-5-1 advantage. Michigan lost when Roger Staubach came to Ann Arbor back in the early 60s; the teams haven't met since 1981, when Michigan escaped with a 21-16 win over a tough and determined (but undertalented) Navy squad.
