Devin Bush Quotes on Wisco

"Just knowing they've got to come in and play us.  They've got to defend against us and try to beat us."

"When you come in and you play Michigan, you're going to have to beat Michigan"

Devin Bush is greatly beneficial to this team.  I love this confident, we should be better than you attitude he demonstrates when discussing opponents.  I think a lot of the lack of success against Ohio State has been a mental block.  We are always close, but can't finish.  Ohio State assumes they are going to beat us every year.  They feel it deep down.

With this attitude in your leader, Bush is instilling in the other guys that we are the Big Guys, we are the Aggressors that should win every battle.  Its not "Oh if we play well this week we might beat Wisconsin" its "We're going to win, we're going to dominate, they will have a really difficult time trying to beat us"

The placebo affect is clearly powerful in the medical world; it is the same in sports and life in general.  Expect domination, expect victory, expect you are better then the other team.

Side note - that hit he made on Maryland's quarterly the first drive this past Saturday...Talk about setting the tone early!  Bush understands the Intimidation factor, and how important the psychology aspect of the game is.  Penalty or not, after that hit the Maryland QB knew he was in for a long, violent game.

while I agree ... the game has changed since the 1960's.  The current version gives a LB with speed an advantage today.  There are many more plays (ie - jet sweeps) that go wide than having a Jim Brown style running back carrying the load.  I'm in total agreement that Bush is speed and toughness and a pinch of "Butkus" like nastiness, and is critical to run Don Brown's scheme.

Go Blue!

We haven't lost to MSU or OSU or any other team in the past because we lack confidence. We've lost because they've been better at football than us.

There was plenty of tough talk and spike planting during the Hoke years, but it wasn't combined with competence, let alone excellence.

Confidence that isn't based in achievement is just pissing in the wind. Fortunately, our defense—including Bush—has actually achieved consistent excellence, so confidence is warranted.

Our recruiting classes are always better then Michigan States, yet we have lost 8 of the last 10 to them.  You are going to tell me they haven't had a mental advantage over us in the past?

They are always more fired up, always more aggressive when they play us.

You hit the nail on the head, dude. Attitude is the biggest issue with this team. If they can get up for these games and play with a mean-ass attitude they will be truly tough to beat.

Michigan State and Ohio State are  totally in their heads and they have to shake that. I want to see them stomp State and maybe run it up a little to show those punks what time it is. And that will get the monkey off their back for Ohio State.

THis team STUNK last year and were still in position to win the State, Wisconsin and Ohio State games. And they looked like they were all working a job they hated. Think what they can do with a good QB and improved line and recievers? And with some added fire?

If this team can get in the right frame of mind, everyone better look the fuck out.

I've mentioned this before - I was a wrestler in college. Our coach was big on Visualization. We had to prepare for each match by sitting quietly (I'm old...no iPods or headphones in those days) and visualizing ourselves doing something fantastic in our match.

Looking back 40 years I find it to be absolutely worthless! Having a great attitude and being prepared to kick ass was great and all...but it didn't mean squat if the opponent was just plain old better than you. Visualizing didn't make you a better athlete!

OSU just had the better athletes. Michigan has played well, but just got out talented of late.

I think that is changing.

"Well Bo sure as heck believed in visualization."

Bo believed in visualization after working his players like dogs in practice until they got the goddamn plays right. Jesus.

This "confidence comes before achievement" codswallop is every bit as stupid as "imagination is more important than knowledge."

No it doesn't. You simply cannot win without confidence. If you don't want to win, you won't. If you don't think you can win, you won't. It's that simple.

The best team doesn't always win, that's why they play the games. Otherwise there's no point. How many times do we see massive upsets and in the post-game interviews the underdogs say "no one said we could do it, but we believed in ourselves", etc. etc.?

Inferior teams beat superior teams every week. It's not about simply believing you will win - that's not enough, of course. But, you can't win if you're not in the right mental state.
