OT-Most miserable sporting event you have ever attended? (Weather)

Submitted by Trump on

While watching this Green Bay game dip down into the negatives, I began to think about the most miserable sporting event I had ever attended. I would have to say the 2006 Northwestern football game where we were smacked by freezing rain all game long. Fans decided huddling together near the bathrooms was a smarter choice than watching Michigan win a boring game 17-3.

Any April Cleveland Indians game in the old stadium.

I did see a game in a snowstorm in Green Bay in 1986(?) - Packers versus Tampa. The Packers were loving it, drawing up plays in the snow in the huddle, while the Buccaneers just wanted to go home. In the stands, there were excellent snowball fights and free hot chocolate (with rum chasers for those of us with flasks), so while it was cold as anything and we got what felt like a thousand inches of snow I had a blast.

I cannot decide if it was the 2008 Toledo/Michigan game or a Michigan/Northwestern home game that was very cold, windy, and rainy. I cannot recall which year it was, but it was a RR-led team.

I don't remember the year (sorry) but it rained the entire second half, wiat it poured with drops the size of ping pong balls the entire second half. My legs were absolutely soaked right through to my feet squishing while we were walking out of there. It was with a win so it could have been worse at least we were happy singing it's great to be a Michigan Wolverine. Go Blue !!!

I have been to colder games but the 2013 @ NW game was the most miserable both in terms of the awful product on the field, and the cold rain all game long combined for just a wearying, miserable afternoon. I'm just glad we got out of there with a W, because suffering through that for a loss would've been way worse.

Also, 2010 vs Penn State was pretty miserable too, it was cold and rainy but not as cold as 2013 NW.

After a debilitating loss to the Spartans, the team returned to Ann Arbor to lay an egg against Illinois and mock us for our dreams of a national championship.  It drizzled the whole game, just enough to soak your jeans thoroughly, and most of the fans still there in the 4th quarter of this close game were Illini.  Probably because we were up 27-7 midway through the 3rd quarter before surrendering four straight touchdowns.

Horrible weather, although a good result.  Driving rain almost the entire game; I had convinced brand-new spouse to attend with me ('c'mon, it'll be fun").  While the marriage has lasted, she has not been to another Michigan game.

Northwestern in '08. I was in the front row for the first time, and at the 40 behind the Michigan bench. Tested my fandom that day.
