steve clinkscale

Things Discussed:

  • Clink back! Outbid Harbaugh.
  • Wink Martindale: If you want a Ravens guy he invented the Amoeba. He's not young and not gonna stick around, but he holds this team together, and when he leaves he might have Clinkscale ready to take over, which he isn't now.
  • Matters if he's going to take one or two jobs (IE bring his guy) on staff because they need some recruiting juice if he's going to be a Mike Macdonald-level recruiter.
  • Lee Aaliya: This should be the last straw for the NCAA. NCAA strung him along for five then came up with ridiculous demands: wanted an 18-year-old to have all of his grocery receipts and pay $15,000 (was it $1500?). Jamal Crawford, Mitch McGary: The NCAA is preventing kids who want to come to Michigan FOR THE EDUCATION from coming here, and it's hard at this point not to believe it's out of hatred for Michigan. Michigan should have signed him and dared the NCAA to come after them.
  • NCAA vs Everybody: Dartmouth ruling will either stick if Dems retain White House, or get overturned by federal NLRB if Reps do, because of the party differences on unions (Craig: and grift!).
  • Expect to see some legislation in the near future in Southern states that protect the donors who were paying kids under the table for all these years, because they have some big tax liabilities.

The only 2024 commit who doesn't yet have a Hello is 3* CB Jeremiah Lowe, out of Frederick Douglass High School in Lexington, Kentucky. Lowe committed in August around the same time as Jo'Ziah Edmond, who I profiled a few weeks back. With signing day tomorrow, I figured it was time to give Lowe his proper Hello.

Lowe is a legitimate 3* and based on the rankings, he is one of the biggest stabs-in-the-dark of this class. He's 69th out of 77 corners Michigan has recruited since 1990 and in the 100-125 range for corners nationally. The recruiting rankings say there's nothing to be excited or intrigued about with Lowe, but given the manner in which Michigan pursued him (more on that in a minute), there is probably more than meets the eyes.

[AFTER THE JUMP: the mystery man]

Michigan picked up a commitment today from transfer cornerback Josh Wallace of UMass. A grad transfer, Wallace will join the team in fall camp and compete for a spot in the rotation at corner during his final season of NCAA eligibility. Let's give him a hello:

UMass, eh? Wallace's recruiting profile back when he was coming out of high school was more or less "not applicable". Only 247 bothered to rank him and so we weren't able to get a composite/consensus ranking on Wallace. As you'd expect, Wallace registered as a low 3*, 67th out of 75 corners in our database dating back to 1990. But of course he's not coming to Michigan as a high schooler, he's arriving as a molded four year college player. As a transfer, 247 still has him ranked as a 3* but his rating is up to 88 from 84, showing the strides he made from UMass. The point about this paragraph is simply that Wallace is not your blue chip burning out at one program and going to a new one sort of transfer portal kid. Which you probably knew the moment you heard "transferring from UMass".

Cornerbacks, and guys the size of two cornerbacks

Fist pump away. This was Michigan’s first choice when they lost Linguist, and you could make the case he should have been the top choice all along.

Some names for CB coach.

Markelle Fultz and Matisse Thybulle! 9-22!
