Date Title Body
7 years 21 weeks ago You couldn't be more wrong

In games against Iowa, Wisconsin, and Penn St, we were down less than two touchdowns with plenty of time left. Ask Iowa if the game was "in the bag" when they were up a single score with 10 minutes to play. Or ask Wisconsin if the game was over holding a 10 point lead with over half of the 3rd quarter to play.  Again, in many of the games, MSU, Iowa, Wisconsin, we had opportunities to score early, but were stopped by ourselves - as my earlier post mentions: Lewann penalties, Denard int's in the endzone etc. Very few defenses have stopped with any sustained success this season. Or really none for that matter. But you probably wanted to fire RR the moment he and Rita showed up in A2.

7 years 21 weeks ago I'll try this

Against Iowa, our offense dominated all day. The only thing that stopped them was Taylor Lewann Penalties and turnovers. We out gained them easily though whether we were up or down. Against MSU we had at least two (maybe three) first half drives that should have ended in scores but did not - two picks and a missed field goal. Again, not exactly evidence that our offense struggled. Finally, against Wisconsin, Denard over threw an otherwise certain 65+ yard first half touchdown, but not because Wisconsin was too good defensively. I would say that we move the ball fine against any team any time, regardless of game score or clock. However, as a young team, we have displayed a remarkable affinity for drive-ending mistakes. The only team that stops Michigan's offense is Michigan's offense.

7 years 21 weeks ago Do Not Blow Up This Offense

We can not take pages from Notre Dame and Nebraska by firing our coaches every three years and not allowing them time to build a program. It would be one thing if RR had success with Carr's players and continued to do worse with each recruiting class, but clearly his worst year was year one and the progress our offense has made cannot be denied. As frustrating as the defense has been, the whole program will be set back another half decade if Brandon let's RR go and tries to bring in a new coach with a new system. The proof is there people, and the defense will come around.

8 years 28 weeks ago On the Forcier/Denard thing

I thought Forcier should have been in for the final drive strictly for his command of the 2 minute offense, but at the same time Denard earned a chance to play it out after his previous drive. No time for second guessing it now anyway. Besides, you never know on what snap he might just take it to the house. 5 turnovers in a two-score game is the story, but I don't feel bad about last nights loss at all. I think a tune-up game at home against Delaware St will get us back on track.

8 years 31 weeks ago Agreed

While watching on TV, it looked like the ball sailed right in front of Matthews' head. If he had been anticipating the pass, it would have been an easy reception. However, it looked like he didn't see the ball until it crossed his field of vision and by that time it was too late. That is just my opinion based on the angle of the play as captured by the TV camera's.

8 years 33 weeks ago Kirk Herbstreit

Was just on ESPN talking about the whole ordeal, and he might as well have been reading Brian's blog verbatim. It was good to see a former OSU player in front of the Columbus skyline saying positive things about Rodriguez and basically discrediting the whole story. Rosenberg = worse than OSU?

8 years 33 weeks ago here's another link

that is all about Rosenberg's clear disdain for RR.

8 years 46 weeks ago Rodney Stewart (or Stuart)

Check out this kid for a possible comparison. He was a true freshman at Colorado last fall, out of Columbus, OH, and ended up having some huge games for the Buffs. He's a tiny little 3-star back that got virtually no looks from anyone in the Big10, including OSU, despite growing up in the Bushole. He also ended up outplaying Darrell Scott, who was by most accounts, the number 1 RB recruit in the nation last year. No one knew who he was until he went wild on WVU in an early season game last year, but he definitely made a name for himself here in Colorado.

8 years 48 weeks ago Desmond?

On the very last kickoff return, I half expected him to throw up a Heisman pose.

8 years 49 weeks ago Awesome

This is a great work. I thought this was one of the most interesting pieces I've read in a while. It definitely explains why I always feel like I'm in heart attack mode when any of my teams is up in the fourth with some time left; I've been trained to think that it is a losing equation.

9 years 5 days ago Spring Game, it's the spring game!

I have to keep telling my self that because I got admittedly too excited watching Tate hitting those passes. Is it September yet? because I am ready to wash off the stink of 3-9, and that kid looks like he has the talent to do it. Again, trying not to get overly pumped on a few highlights from a scrimmage, but I think it's safe to say we may have player at QB this year. That's gotta be worth a few extra wins (say Toledo and Northwestern) right there.

9 years 1 week ago the upside...

He'll add some much needed depth and leadership to the position. Although he hasn't played football at the college level, 4 years of Duke basketball probably thought him a thing or two about team work and poise. Hopefully he won't start because I'm anxious to see Tate go at it, but if he's an athlete and a competitor he should be an asset to the bench and the locker room. Tate seems like a confident kid, so I don't think this will bother him too much, but admittedly I don't know the kid personally to make that call. In any event, if we have the scholarship available to give away this season, I don't see the downside of using it for a single season. As long there isn't any internal strife over it, I think it will do more good than harm. Also, I'm a desperately optimistic UM fan, so I have to imagine it will work out.

9 years 4 weeks ago I know your tickets cost

I know your tickets cost more, but don't forget it's the University's football team. If the student population were to petition successfully for a night game, I would say nuts to you old timer. Have another beer and try to stay up past halftime. If the fans from PSU, LSU, OSU, FLA (esp FLA) can handle a night game, there's no reason UM fans can't. Or is it some weird thing were people in Michigan have to work early on Sunday mornings?

9 years 4 weeks ago Some of the Comments are funny

I've been going to Michigan games all my life, and I love certain aspects of the Big House (like no advertisements), but it tends to be pretty lifeless. Not just quiet, but sort of a dead calm, as if everyone is always waiting for the bottom to fall out or the earth to end. I have been to many other stadiums for ncaa games and nfl games, and the Big House is definitely more like a monastery than a rock concert. Now I understand you don't want actual rock music, but that should be the environment the stadium strives for: loud, raucous, excited and intimidating. It's kind of embarrassing to see 100,000 people so quiet and still sometimes, and nothing is worse than being told to "sit down" during a big play - No, you stand up!. Even Ryan Field (NW) is livelier than Michigan Stadium, and it only seats about 12 people + the band. I'm just saying we can do better, without getting tacky or classless about it.

9 years 8 weeks ago Yeah Douches...

says the home state of such great cities as Toledo, Youngstown, Cleveland, and Cincinnati. I'll give it to you, Columbus is a good cowtown by today's rustbelt standards in the midwest. But as someone who is a C-Bus native, I feel perfectly happy to rip the city, as I could not move away soon enough.

And for the campaign, it probably would have generated more goodwill and less negativity had it just said something positive about OSU or referred directly to the 42-7 ass kicking we were handed in November. Instead, it was just a pure dig at one of the best Schools in the country, with one of the most prestigious football programs in the history of the game. Goodwill in a small market is one thing, but there was a lot of outrage among Michigan fans. By my estimation, it may still be have the largest living alumni base of any university in the nation - if that's no longer the case, it's still a shit load of influential people. All and all, not a good move, as proven by the fact that it is coming down asap.

9 years 8 weeks ago okay then let me try one more time for you...

Fact: I grew up in Columbus and feel that OSU fans are by and large assholes who focus on little more than OSU football.

Fact: Not every Columbus resident is a football loving nut-job.

Therefore, it is inaccurate of me to say that the whole city revolves around nothing more than football. However, it is also accurate for me to say that most of the people I know from that town are Buckeye football crazy and can be pretty ruthless if you don't fall in line. Therefore, I am speaking about my personal experience. My experience in Columbus may not be the universal, but what I found. Do you see how that works? I can make a judgment off an experience that I had, however, it may not be true all the time. That does not make my experience or opinions on the experience wrong.

9 years 8 weeks ago no, I am admitting

that maybe casting a judgment over all Columbus area residents is probably inaccurate, but based on my experiences, I will believe what I stated previously. That's all.

9 years 8 weeks ago cherish the rivalry

definitely the best in sports. a lot of my best friends are OSU fans, season ticket holders, psychopaths, etc. I mentioned the counter only because I have seen frequent references to that number from OSU fans on ESPN blogs, facebook pages, emails, or wherever. It was to illustrate how often the average OSU fan thinks specifically about one game: a lot.

9 years 8 weeks ago did I mention

that I'm 6'4" and weigh 245lbs (read, a very small individual). But that was kind of my point, people are going to run-off at the mouth under a veil of anonymity. The guy shouldn't be surprised to see a remark that is not entirely based on fact - it happens!

9 years 8 weeks ago geez, your sensitve

did my sweeping generalization of Columbus really offend you that much? Or surprise you rather that someone would do such a thing on an internet blog? Yeah I said it, and I meant it. Maybe it's not true, but I will believe it till the day I die based on what I know. Try not to get your panties in a bunch.

9 years 8 weeks ago was not

talking to you cfaller. wtf, jesus right back at you man.

9 years 8 weeks ago I don't know if you've noticed

but it's sort of the topic of the discussion here, thus I am focused on it for now. The rest of my day will probably be spent enjoying our blue skies and sixty degree days. Have fun in Come-blow-us, Ohio.

9 years 8 weeks ago "It seems sophomoric to me"

Thank you Bronxblue. The ad is not awful or offensive, just low brow, OSU style humor.

9 years 8 weeks ago a day

you spent one day in Denver, and one guy gave you some crap about the wings, and you scale that to a major city wide marketing campaign dogging the wings? Nope, sorry dude not the same as a lifetime of experience. Not the same at all. Yeah, people here hate the wings, but I have never seen an advertiser rip the wings in order to booster customer loyalty. People here probably wouldn't fall for that shit. Face it, Columbus is a one trick pony man. I'm sorry you made the poor life choice of moving there. Perhaps you would have been better off doing some crack.

9 years 8 weeks ago are you openly

a michigan fan? perhaps you've been lucky so far, but just give it some time. It really is unbelievable how they covet their football team. growing up there was pretty miserable, and that was during the cooper years - my last football season living in Columbus was 2000.

9 years 8 weeks ago to be clear

it's not so much an offensive ad, as much as it is a commentary on the city's fixation with the rivalry. For instance, I don't think I've ever seen a similar ad in here in Denver, say giving a cheers to Lane Kiffin and the Raiders for being so terrible. Especially in a season when the Broncos themselves weren't that good. Basically, most large cities are identified by more than a single sport or rivalry. In Columbus, that is not the case. You know they have a newspaper counter on the Dispatch website that counts the number of days since Michigan last beat OSU. Most OSU fans could probably tell you what that number is without having to check because they really care that much and think about it pretty much non-stop. But from the MM perspective, it was definitely smart advertising.

9 years 8 weeks ago also

what part of my rant was ill-informed? Do you have better information on Columbus? Did you grow up there as a die-hard Michigan fan? As a 6 year old kid, did did adults tell you that Michigan sucked and about how this was OSU's year to beat the snot out of "that school up north?" Ill-informed? I don't think so. Perhaps better informed was what you meant to say.

9 years 8 weeks ago spelling lessons on the

spelling lessons on the internet, thanks buddy!

9 years 8 weeks ago born and raised

in the shadow of the whore's shoe. went to high school down the road at upper arlington and my parents still live there. The worst time of the year is xmas, because that is the only time I have to go back. anymore stupid questions?

9 years 8 weeks ago This just shows

what a pathetic town columbus is. Over 1 million people in the metro area, and the life of every individual in the city revolves wholly around the football team. There is no culture, no class, and certainly nothing else to look forward to. They have to pick on Michigan right now because they no longer matter in the national scope after three straight bowl losses and a schlacking at USC. As someone who grew up in that toilet bowl excuse for a city, I can honestly say that no proper thinking person would allow themselves to live their by choice. However, Buckeyes probably find it hard out here in the real world, so they stick to their disgusting little bubble that we call columbus, and I used to have to call home. They are really the worst people in the world.
