I know it happens all the

I know it happens all the time, but why, exactly, have fighter jets fly over a stadium? I guess the military sees it as good PR, and football in general seems culturally to be unquestioningly pro-military (though I suppose the majority of any nation is typically pro-military). Do other countries do this, or is it a uniquely American oddity?

They're both good, if

They're both good, if somewhat gimmicky, offensive coordinators. I think Borges is more flexible, though.

Easy to say when you don't

Easy to say when you don't have to do it. This would have been another year of garish shootouts (and a couple blowout losses), which I'm thankful to have been spared.

How is Chitonwblue's comment

How is Chitonwblue's comment "flamebait." Jeez the RR mafia is really running rampant in this thread.

[Okay, now this could probably be considered flamebait.]

I have no idea what this rant

I have no idea what this rant is about. What is "it" referring to, throughout? Where does "laughable human self-importance" come into play?

RE = Sparty fans saying this

RE = Sparty fans saying this is our Super Bowl

They are clearly aping M fans who calmly observe that this game is the be-all end-all game for Sparty. I guess I'm touched they're still imitating us.

It seems that every school in

It seems that every school in the state that's not M claims to be the best teachers' college.

I'm thinking Brian's probably

I'm thinking Brian's probably one of maybe twelve people whose takeaway from the 1st half was a yearning for what could have been under Rich Rod. Yes, I'm sure we could have eventually been like Northwestern 2011.

Anyhow, our D didn't allow this offense to score one point in the 2nd half.

It might come off like a cop

It might come off like a cop out, but I think it's a fact. There seems to be an ingrained intolerance for anyone who doesn't have high (very possibly irrational) optimism.

Maybe there are some out

Maybe there are some out there who still value yards over points.

I don't think anyone can

I don't think anyone can minimize the obvious, massive improvements on defense this year. And no, I don't think it has much to do with everyone got a year older. Look at Ryan and Countess: those dudes seem to know what they're doing when they're out there.

The board's always been that

The board's always been that way.

Screen pass destined to fail

3rd and 6 under Rodriguez = 3rd and 6 under Carr

Instead of scrapping

Instead of scrapping rollouts, shouldn't Denard simply get better at them?

And I have to say, our new OC seems significantly more innovative and flexible than the last two regimes'.

Well, you could say the same

Well, you could say the same thing about all defensive backs in the Rodriguez era.

...a Heisman candidate who

...a Heisman candidate who has had a fair amount of trouble with accuracy.

Yeah Brian wrote something

Yeah Brian wrote something like that. Basically, we are "We are ND." Except worse, since they've kept their gameday atmosphere intact.

Who cares what the players or

Who cares what the players or students like? The atrocious tastes of teenagers already dictates so much of radio and tv play, do we really need it polluting the Big House as well?

Too sentimental

Sorry, but how exactly are soldiers in Iraq helping to keep you safe? Do you honestly think this impoverished, devastated country could have launched some kind of attack on the US?

Aw man, sorry it's like that

Aw man, sorry it's like that Section 1. I just made a private MgoResolution not to judge you unfairly going forward.

I don't understand why so

I don't understand why so many people are convinced Carr sought to undermine Rodriguez. The default position on the blog was to stand up for Rodriguez at all costs, and if that meant trashing former players, former coaches, the Admissions department, and the university itself, then so be it.

That's fair.  But I do

That's fair.  But I do remember an MgoMob harassing the Admissions department over Dorsey.

One of the weirdest memes was

One of the weirdest memes was that RR was "just like Bo."

A stepping stone to greater

A stepping stone to greater things? Like what? This is Michigan, forgodssakes.

Well there was certainly

Well there was certainly animosity between this blog and the university's Admissions department. To hell with standards, we wanted a good cornerback!

I always thought the 2010

I always thought the 2010 State game was the real beginning of the end. There was just an oppressive feeling of doom from that point on.

Okay, but until you see

Okay, but until you see anything stating otherwise, this is just aimless speculation. It seems to be the case that Casteel simply wasn't interested in coming to Michigan, as hard as that is for many of us to imagine. I do not think that Casteel, in November 2008, didn't come to Michigan because he perceived through some kind of divination that Rodriguez would not have the full support of the M community. Or because M wouldn't pay him as much as WVU. Rodriguez didn't have the full support of the WVU administration, after all, and yet Casteel chose to remain there. As long as we're aimlessly speculating: perhaps Casteel was sick of working under Rodriguez.

This clown hopes that if he

This clown hopes that if he keeps saying the ACC is better than the Big Ten someone might actually believe him. The ACC has one good football weekend and the MSM goes wild.

I agree completely,

I agree completely, BlueFordetc. Your post will not be forgotten, I don't care if it's gray!

We need a 2010 watch as well.

We need a 2010 watch as well. I'd rather not repeat either year, but I have a bad feeling about this team heading into Big Ten play.

It's pretty clear you've been It's pretty clear you've been dying inside since January 5. So at least you're used to it.
I never understood why

I never understood why Rodriguez was so geeked about injury reports.

Hah, after three years of not

Hah, after three years of not even getting close to .500 in Big Ten play(!), let's just say it's not irrational to think the program was already considerably "set back" before Hoke got here.

Fine, maybe they can't quite

Fine, maybe they can't quite be umbrellad under "pop," but their music is pretty generic revamped classic rock. It's all three-minute songs with three verses, two choruses, and a bridge. It's pop with different clothes on.

So many stadiums use this chant.  I wouldn't be able to help feeling dumb yelling "Oh o o o o o Oh Oh" again and again.

What's wrong with playing the Go Blue chant or the Victors again and again? And get off my lawn!

Does anyone have a link for

Does anyone have a link for Kelly's postgame presser? That would be some delicious shaudenfreude.

I don't think RR was saying

I don't think RR was saying flat out that M doesn't know what it takes to build a top-level program. He was saying that M didn't understand what he, particularly, needed to build such a program.

Is there anything wrong with RR still having confidence in his abilities and still believing he could have turned it around? And it's his job now to analyze football, and it seems to me he's been pretty respectful and fair towards M throughout. In terms of borderline petty comments, I'd say Brandon has handily outdone him.

Man, seeing Carder overrated

Man, seeing Carder overrated like this makes me remember how everyone was going bananas over Indiana's QB last year (name?) after we barely squeaked by them. Carder is decent but most Big Ten QBs will be better. Our secondary will likely be vulnerable all year (but at least we're used to this by now).

I think Hoke has changed the tide on the rivalry? Yes.

I think Hoke has changed the tide on the rivalry. Hell people in Ohio are starting to believe him. Never in a million years I would have thought that. Selling Michigan jerseys is a good start.

Plus his thighs were the size

Plus his thighs were the size of LBs' torsos. I've never seen a back his size plow through people like that.

Thanks. What a disgusting

Thanks. What a disgusting play.

Is there video of the State

Is there video of the State chop block against Martin?

That apocryphal story about

That apocryphal story about Shafer blew my mind.  Shafer is truly one of the heroes of the Rodriguez era.

WHO CARES!

WHO CARES!

Honestly, I think those were

Honestly, I think those were Rodriguez-era specials.

I much prefer the block M

I much prefer the block M myself.

Nice to see the Old Town

Nice to see the Old Town shout-out. A few of us used to drink there as undergrads now and then, like children allowed to sit at the adult table, and we'd always be on our best behavior. And after a genteel drinking session, rounding out the night with Fleetwood's was a perfect counterpoint.

How dare Brian inflict these

How dare Brian inflict these mistakes on us!

You're right, that was lame.

You're right, that was lame.

Morgan Trent > Rich Rodriguez

Ah, I love visiting MgoBlog and seeing everyone trash former Michigan players. That's what it's all about, isn't it.

In all seriousness, good for Trent.

You've got DeLillo all wrong,

I think you've got DeLillo all wrong, if that's what you think his writing embodies.

And anyhow, DFW was deeply influenced by and indebted to DeLillo. I think it's people like Leyner, Coover, and Barth DFW was trying to distance himself from. He admired DeLillo.
