He was actually yelling at them to turn it off because the band had taken their place and was actually starting to play. He just wanted to hear the band instead of the loud speaker music. I was the one unhappy with hearing the F-bomb and about "tattooed bitches".
You are right. Would be ironic to protest swearing in rap music by flipping the bird.
