Except...you know...when WVU ran all over Georgia and Oklahoma in BCS bowls and abused their defenses like they were in the Big East. Hell, Michigan moved the ball consistently on OSU with a beat up freshman QB, their top 2 RB's out and a makeshift O-line. Will you see Denard going 50+ yards 3 times a game against elite defenses...no. But no defense in this conference is Miami '91 or Michigan '97.
No, a lot of "people" can't be All-Big Ten. The difference between Roh and Martin and "a lot of people" is both have shown the ability and talent to deserve that kind of expectation. Martin played with a shoulder all season, so your point about him maxing out his physicality is dubious at best. As to your concern about "young" RB's, the players likely to see the most time are two juniors and a sophomore, with only one (Cox) that showed any penchant for putting the ball on the ground.
Given that the "pragmatic" perspective (which is exceedingly and ridiculously negative) is argued with more conviction (and several more sentences) and the optimistic viewpoint is terribly weak, we can safely assume what side Mat falls on. Basically this entry offers an opnion that young and inexperienced players do not get better, while 2 or 3 players (and one that underperformed in Warren) are more important than the collective whole of a maturing defense. It assumes that every returning player will play to their same level of last year, then factors in the losses in personnel to paint a dire, despressing picture. Pretty lame entry IMO.
The secondary lacks experience, but isn't short on talent and ability. I'm not sure we have any future 1st round NFL CB's, but I'll take 4 or 5 solid kids who can cover and tackle, and I think Avery, CC and Talbott look very impressive for true freshman. As for Floyd, I think many Michigan fans have sold this kid way short with regard to his ability. He'll never be an elite athlete with track speed, but he'll work his ass off to be one of the best corners in the Big Ten the next 3 years.
Miami and FSU in their heyday didn't have 2nd string defenses better than most starting D's in the country, so how in the world would OSU? Common sense would be that either Pryor and the offense had an off day, or (more likely) this isn't an ultra dynamic offense with exceptional talent everywhere. What it is though is an effective offense that compliments a stout defense and makes them a title contender. The thread starter made a sarcastic comment about OSU's 2nd string and multiple Michigan fans actually argued as to why OSU's 2's are REALLY the best 2nd string in the nation. It's like I'm in the twilight zone.
