Sten, I'm shocked (rwwmb). Wow, is all. Still a fan, just not enjoying watching this season....which does not make me less of a fan.
It appears that the coaching staff has gotten so far into Devin's head trying to turn him into the anti-denard that the poor kid doesn't know what to do. His hesitation & timing is not all the o-lines fault. Don't get me wrong, the o-line is bad at best, but when he does have time he freezes. Still trying to make players be something they are not into what they want.
Did or did not Hoke/Borges recruit these inexperienced/untalented lineman?? The o-lineman that's supposed to be the holy grail NfL talent can't quit running his mouth to actually take time to protect his QB.
No, he's not an egotistical douche...he stopped playing team ball & it's thrown the rest of the team out of rhythm. Whether it be out of pure personal gain or out of necessity...if we are going to get anywhere in the the tournament, we have to get back to playing TEAM ball.
No one is degrading the TEAM, but if you want to objectively look at what has happened from from the early season success until the Big Ten tribulations...the Burke looking for a NBA draft bid has been it.
If you look at our team from the beginning of the season until now what's the difference? It's called TEAM effort. I'm not sure if it was the TEAM shooting percentage that dropped off or the Burke show took over, but I can guarantee you this...when the Burke hype took off...the selfish guard play took over. Our three point percentage shots from Staukus, GRIII, and Hardaway Jr dropped off. We've been out of rhythm because they are not used to taking the outside shots that were our bread & butter. Burke is a great player, but a phenomenal player elevates his teammates game along with his own. It's been all about Burke, he's not the only good player on this TEAM!
I was at the game. I fully expected them to compete. If I did not expect them to compete, I wouldn't have taken vacation days from work & flown halfway across the US to watch...nor would half the other Michigan fans in attendance.
Yes, the play calling was HORRIBLE! Whoever thought running our smallest RB up the middle against one of the largest D-lines in college football was a good idea should be biffed in the head & called a dumbass. Unless your greasing him up like a pig & hoping he slips through, it's not going to work. Now, don't get me wrong, I love V.Smith courage & ability to not give up, But that was the wrong gameplan from the start. When it failed 3-4 times you would have thought they would have gotten the message. Not our coaching staff, nope...let's run the same play...OVER and OVER...and OVER.
My husband & I went to the game as well. Your description was spot on! It actually made me smile through the pain. Although, it made realize that the whole ordeal was just not a terrible nightmare & that I really paid $8.50 a beer x like 6 because i was trying to get so intoxicated that I might blackout the event all together...(note to Jerry, you may want to consider selling Jack by the bottle.) Even if I could have gotten drunk enough to forget that I been there, i would have eventually found the M-Den bag with the "Blue Beat Bama" shirts I had purchased & now can not wear for anything other than cleaning the house or yard work. I really don't want to go to work tomorrow , I'm going to get nothing but grief...if we had at least been competitive...DANG IT! (insert whiny southern twang that I've mysteriously picked up in the last 3 days)
