On the contrary, he waited that long because that was Harbaugh's preferred timetable.
People have a kind of egocentric view of Michigan. We can't just hire whomever we want, whenever we want. Those guys have their own schedules and needs.

Come on. Was Carr supposed to have a crystal ball and know that Harbaugh would become a head coach down the road? The guy he did hire for that position, Loeffler, did well by all accounts.

Are the Jazz that much worse or are they just facing much tougher competition in their conference?

Why is this bad news? It sounds like they're getting a guy we don't want.
|1 day 9 hours ago||and came back from 23 last||
The real "Gaaaden" is long gone. The new one is just another bland 20,000-seat NBA arena.

Huh? ND was a powerhouse from 1988-93. Holtz got there in 1986, so the bulk of that was done with his own guys.

Not sure if serious, but that happened before he took over.
|1 day 9 hours ago||There is probably language in||
There is probably language in the contract mandating that it be called that way from now on. Random fans might not call it "Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall" but I'd expect announcers to do so from now on.

It's possible to believe the Pistons are improved (though still only 13-14) and still have made a mistake passing on Burke. They aren't mutually exclusive propositions. Personally, I think it'd have been awesome to watch Burke toss alley-oops to Drummond.

And yet, Michigan is literally the only major-conference in the country to not have advertising in its stadium.
|1 day 11 hours ago||We just had to grab one||
We just had to grab one defensive rebound with 30 seconds to probably win.
|1 day 11 hours ago||In Blanchard's four years, we||
In Blanchard's four years, we went 15-14, 10-18, 11-18 and 17-13. The fourth year, we might have had a shot at the NCAAs, but that was the year of the postseason ban. The poor guy had rotten luck.
|1 day 11 hours ago||What these committees do is||
What these committees do is discuss names and recommend one, or more, to the AD to go after. They don't do the hiring themselves.
We had our own search committee in 2007. It recommended Miles.
|1 day 11 hours ago||I think the moral of this||
I think the moral of this story (and USC's, and pretty much everyone else's) is that it's hard to land an established head coach. Most of them either don't want to move from where they are, or will only leave for the NFL. Alabama got lucky with Saban wanting to leave the NFL, and OSU got lucky that Meyer was out of coaching altogether and looking to return. Those are outlier outcomes, not something a school can typically hope to pull off.
|1 day 11 hours ago||He did get lucky with both||
He did get lucky with both Drummond and Monroe. Those guys were projected to go higher and unexpectedly fell into the Pistons' lap.

But we would have said the same about Darius Morris during his freshman year, too.
|2 days 7 hours ago||Hardaway, it should be noted,||
We should remember that Hardaway was struggling at this point in his freshman season (2010-11), too. He came on, big time, in the second half of the season, and that's also when the team found its groove and surged into a tournament bid. His final season numbers were solid, but it was really a tale of two half-seasons.
|2 days 10 hours ago||He only "got it off in||
He only "got it off in time" because there was a lag before the timekeeper started the clock, as is normal. It's pretty much impossible for a human being to start the clock instantaneously with the start of play.

If he knew from the first conversation with Ferentz that it'd be a bad relationship, why did he go to Iowa and stay for four years?
|2 days 11 hours ago||The rule is backed by||
The rule is backed by research. It's been found that it takes about a half-second just to throw a ball off a guy's leg out of bounds, so how could a player catch a pass, turn and shoot in the same amount of time?

People here are way too obsessed with themes of "regression" and such. Sometimes you just have a bad season.

We have a winner.
2007-08 men's basketball: 10-22 (most losses in school history)
2008 football - 3-9 (most losses in school history)
|3 days 9 hours ago||I will preface this by saying||
I will preface this by saying that I'm not a big NHL (or pro sports) fan, but aren't Wings fans kind of spoiled at this point? I mean, four Stanley Cups in 16 years, in a sport known for very random playoff outcomes - how many more can you expect? I feel like you shouldn't get that down about not winnig Cup #5 in the past two decades.
|3 days 9 hours ago||Well, the title of the||
Well, the title of the article does explicitly say "Worst Year Ever?"
|3 days 9 hours ago||Definitely not the worst||
Definitely not the worst ever. The Final Four run was incredible, an awesome reward for those of us who suffered through the Ellerbe/Amaker years. Bring up the 2012-13 basketball team and it will always bring a smile to my face.
Football was disappointing, but in the end, how much worse were we than we expected preseason? I thought we'd be about 9-3, so we disappointed relative to that, but I was basically expecting another Outback Bowl, not the Rose Bowl. As time passes it'll just be a "blah" season that we won't remember, other than for perhaps the ND/OSU games. It wasn't bad enough to make me forget the basketball run in the spring.
|1 week 7 hours ago||You don't have to draft him||
You don't have to draft him as a QB, though. He's an impressive runner and could well make a good tailback or receiver. He's rushed for over 3,000 career yards and has topped 1,000 each of the past two years, despite missing a few games this year. He just put up 142 yards and 2 TDs on the ground on MSU's defense.

We haven't had it for twenty years?
The "link to the successful past who has also gotten good experience elsewhere" bit sounds like it could be applied to our current head coach.

This actually goes for most schools, and frequently guides their hiring decisions. USC just hired a guy whose career record is 34-29, but he's an ex-assistant there. Stanford replaced Harbaugh with Shaw, who had no head coaching experience but was an assistant and alumnus. When MSU hired Dantonio, his career coaching record was 18-17, but he was an ex-assistant there. ND hired Weis, an alumnus. And so on.
