Never too late to post I was looking into graduate programs and came across a blog with UM-A students bashing UM-D students. I honestly didn't think this happened between campuses. I was accepted at both campuses, but decided to attend Dearborn, primarily because I was new to the state and wanted to be close to family. I knew Ann Arbor was the main campus, but I also knew that Ann Arbor created the Dearborn campus initially for business and engineering, which are very good/recognized programs. Once I became familiar with the state and made friends, I went to A2 for football games, used the facilities to study and made good friends at A2. My A2 friends would always say to transfer, but it was more so to be closer. I never heard anyone say Dearborn was inferior....maybe boring campus life. I completed my degree, moved out of state and put UM-D on my resume. I excelled at my company and was promoted 3 times in 18 months. Passed some of the toughest state board exams with flying colors while working full time plus... I was considered a top performer. Despite my reference to specific UM campus, executives would introduce me as a "Michigan" grad. Based on some of these posts I did UM-D a disservice by not constantly correcting folks (tough to do because outside of Michigan no one really cares). I work with UM-A2 grads and no one got caught up on campus. We stick together and are top performers. I go back for football games and tailgate. I am thinking about returning to the state for grad school at A2 this time, but wanted to say that these posts truly hurt the Michigan brand. UM-D may not be UM-A2, but there are some really smart people at all UM campuses and the schools are not as separate as people think....top UM-D students are recognized at UM-A2 award ceremonies, some UM-A professors teach at UM-D, I have sat in classes with UM-A2 students. There are bigger world problems to solve instead of sitting here arguing over which smart kid is smarter or who went to the "real Michigan". Much success to all Michigan Alumns and Go Blue!!!
This post is LAUGHABLE! I ran across this post as I was looking into graduate programs between UMA and UMD. Its an embarrassment to the school, but I think this is just an angry minority with a platform to vent. If the schools are separate, then separate them and move on. However, it is hard to think of them as separate when: 1. Same board of reagents 2. Same school president 3. Student tickets to support Wolverine sports 4. Same UM Alumni association 5. UMD students who make the deans lists are recognized at UMA award ceremonies 6. Some UMA professors (not TAs) also teach at UMD campus 7. UMA students come to UMD to take classes all the time when they need to take a class that isn't offered or is full at UMA - if its not part of UM, then why not go to nearby Eastern Michigan to take your class. I would expect so much more from a top 30 school. Truly embarrassing to the school. I looked at other top notch flagship schools and I couldn't find this filth.
