Literally laughed aloud when

Literally laughed aloud when Harbaugh stumbles through a question and reverts to coachspeak:

You challenged them after weeks one and two to be more physical, play more physical. They seemed to take another step today. How close are they to realizing your vision in that area?

“Yeah, I don’t know. I mean, I don’t…get ready for Monday. Uh…”

Misconceptions

Your answer, specifically the part where you say you're not into playing the stock market yet suggest you may invest in mutual funds, suggests that you don't quite understand what a mutual fund is.

A mutual fund is a collection of investments, often a mix of stocks, bonds, and cash, put together by a manager for a (GIANT) fee. So does it make sense that you don't want to invest in stocks, yet you want to pay someone a horrific fee, often upwards of two percent, to invest your money into stocks?

You're going to be offended by this next statement, but please don't lose the wisdom in it. You are in over your head.

In order of lowest risk/return to highest: Cash, CDs, Bonds, Stocks.

Stocks are too volatile for a two year horizon, cash is too conservative (in my humble opinion). Consider CDs and Bonds/bond funds, but know that you are in over your head and educate yourself (or perhaps pay a fee-only advisor if you don't want to educate yourself, that's still a smart move). Again feel free to message me or reply or what have you.

Crowdsourcing your personal finance is silliness

Hey buddy,

First off congratulations on growing the nest egg, and kudos to you for trying to responsibly grow it.

Second off, how satisfied would your wife be if in two years she asks you why your 20K turned into 3K and all you had to say was "Well this guy on the internet said..." None of these people have any risk in giving you advice, and some of them are giving the worst possible.

Buy this book (or maybe the tenth edition if you want it to cover the 2008 collapse):

http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/0393330338?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=…

(A Random Walk Down Wall Street, Burton Malkiel if the link doesn't work)

Read it, make the wife read it, and collectively decide on a course of action. (Hint: probably Bonds unless you want to roll the dice)

I'd be happy to discuss more, if PMing is possible feel free to do that or comment here and I'll look for it.

MBA2015 Here!

Hi Yostbound!

As a current MBA2 at Ross, and an interviewer (I literally just took a break writing up some interviews to check MGoBlog) I'd invite you to PM me to talk privately about any questions you may have.

As for the advice given in this thread, please take it all with a grain of salt and the sources in mind. Examples:

Don't apply ONLY to Ross. During the interview, I'm not supposed to ask you where you applied, and even if you volunteer that information I would think it weird/curious (even as a UM BSME undergrad) and question your reasoning behind ONLY Ross.

As for the guy that said not to do it? That's the opposite of my experience. Best decision I ever made. Two years of the most exciting, eye opening experiences with the best people in the world. Went from an engineering career that I hated(not too different from yourself), to starting a management consulting career that I'm loving.

Take my advice and go here:

https://michiganross.umich.edu/our-community/students/meet-our-students

Find people who's careers were like yours before school, as well as people who are entering fields you want to go into, and ask them all of these questions. I am actually on this list so you might even end up talking with me!

Best of luck to you my friend.

New Cheer

Can we stretch the Chatman pronunciation into a Batman rhyme so we can chant nananana nananana Chat-Man!!! ?

great idea. I love the idea to plant a hot dog guy! Just hand a case of 50 to a random student and tell him to start gunning when he sees daylight! They should definitely do random things like that to encourage the students creativity, keep them having fun and doing weird stuff.
a million times, this That song at that moment was perhaps the most upsetting thing that happened that day. *** I forgot to add: for about 20 seconds the band was below us pounding the drums like an intense heart beat. It was the coolest way to build suspense I've ever seen, then it got drowned by that stupid song.
Awful

That was the most awful noise I have ever heard. I almost smashed my computer trying to get to the mute button. I award you no points.

Tie!

I'm going to go with a three way tie between my girlfriend, Gerald Ford, and the all-Michigan crew of Apollow 15.

My five years of undergrad tickets disagree

From 2005-2010 I NEVER had this issue. pregame til 1230, 15 minute walk over, in comfortably before kick. It was clockwork before and now its a clusterfuck.

I can explain why

At each gate: one person scanning tickets, three people behind her passing out little squares of paper with section numbers on them. Idiocy at its finest.

Blame the administration

I was at the gates to the student section about ten to fifteen minutes before the flyover. It took a total of 45 MINUTES to get through the lines. It was absolutely outrageous considering we used to be in after roughly 5 minutes. It's possible that other games have had poor student attendance but any problem last weekend rests squarely with poor management by the administration.

Just watched a couple plays of practice

I just went for a run over the E. Stadium Bridge and stopped to catch a couple minutes of plays...

Devin threw a pick, reeled in with a high jump by Jarrod Wilson

When Devin went out, Morris went in (So I'll say he's gonna be #2 in the fall) and threw a completion for about 10 yards + 10 YAC. Didn't catch the name of the receiver. Ben Braden was playing at LT for the couple plays I saw.

Too far from the field / busy to see anything else really.

OMG I just burst out with laughter

I don't know if I can award you all the internets, but I certainly award you all MY internets for the day.

Offer

Great measurables, but going to have work hard for that offer. Michigan is really waiting and making the recruits earn them these days, but it will make the accomplishment that much sweeter. Congratulations.

Student section

I was for it, but for a season extremely angry because they arbitrarily decided to isolate some of us UM-Dearborn students during one year of the construction. I won't hold that against the construction itself  however, which is beautiful and awesome.

The commenters above also reminded me of the first time I walked through the tunnel into the student section in '05. It was absolute awe, I can still feel the shivers sent down my spine.

Two Please?

I'd love to get 2 as a treat for my girlfriend... We are UM grads, and she is currently in med school at WSU, so we both love UM hockey and don't get many chances to attend anymore...

Please email me?
