Wrestling nerds: Regional Training Center Cup

Submitted by Satansnutsack on November 30th, 2020 at 12:30 PM

A lot of exciting things happening with the Cliff Keen Wrestling Regional  Training Center right now.  There's been additions of new athletes in the past 6 months like Alex Deiringer.  There is a Regional Training Center cup next weekend where the team winner gets $50k for their center.  Cliff Keen is ranked first out of the 6 teams representing.  I saw on Flo today that Indian wrestling star Bajrang is at Cliff Keen this training.  All positive things coming out of Ann Arbor.

Agree! Wrestling nerd here. Really looking forward to the RTC cup this weekend. Hope to see Mason take on both Gable and Gwiz. Will be great to see Myles in action again as well. Dylan Ragusin gets more chances to compete against top guys; maybe he ends up as the guy at 125 this college season since it's a freebie? Logan vs. Mehki and possibly Dake! Very exciting!

I just hope they can get a college season completed. Feel bad for the Ivy guys (mainly Yianni and the Cornell kids) that won't get a chance to compete.

If the season is able to happen, our Wolverines can legitimately challenge for the team title.  If healthy, this team is loaded:

  • Ragusin - All American Contender (yes, I believe it)
  • Micic - Title Contender
  • Myles Amine - Title Contender
  • Storr - All American Contender
  • Massa - Title Contender
  • Lewan - All American Contender
  • Parris - Title Contender

Also, watch out for Gage Garcia.  I know he is technically on a football scholarship but after watching his HS wrestling film, he will be our best option at 197 and very well could pull some upsets.  He will be a full time wrestler by end of year.

Correct, he is technically on a Wrestling scholarship, however, if I understand the rules correctly, the minute he steps onto the football field in an actual game, then his scholarship will count against the football limit, not wrestling.

This is to prevent schools from tucking football stars under different scholarship limits.  I think Miami did this back in the day, tucking RB's/WR's under track scholarship to have more players.

Personally, I don't think Gage ever plays a down considering how many RB's we have on the team, so may not matter.

He's not on the roster on mgoblue.com.  In reading between the lines with Bormet last year during interviews, he had a hard time staying academically eligible. However, social media shows him practicing with the team during quarantine earlier.

The RTC Cup is going to be amazing!! If you are a wrestling fan at all you need to tune in. Big time guys who have Olympic aspirations will be competing against each other.

I think the Bajarang addition is interesting for the month.  With Micic there (I heard he was training down in Arizona currently) you would have 2 top 20 guys in the world that could see each other within a few months at the Olympics training together.

Overall, the event should be amazing and I believe they are going through testing protocols to ensure no spread occurs. I am not 100% what they are but have heard from individuals closer to F?FLO and the RTCs that safety is #1 for them. There have been a few different events thus far with no spread but nothing to this level of competitors. I hope everyone is safe and healthy.

I did notice that both Micic and Myles Amine are no longer of the Cliff Keen Club page as current wrestlers. I wonder if it's because they somehow are now sponsored by their country they represent.  Interesting that he might be down training in AZ. With Sunkist Kids?  What 57kg people are down there?  Henry Cejudo???? haha
