Thompson Selected for State Farm Three-Point Shootout

April 1, 2013

CHICAGO, Ill. -- Senior guard Kate Thompson (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) of the University of Michigan women's basketball team has been selected to participate in the 25th annual State Farm Women's College 3-Point Championship on Thursday (April 4). The event will air live on ESPN at 7 p.m.

Thompson hit 110 three-pointers on the season, setting a new Michigan single-season record and ranking second all-time in Big Ten history. She had 11 games with at least five three-pointers and 20 games with at least three triples. Thompson set a new U-M single-game standard when she hit seven against Northwestern on Jan. 17. She led the Wolverines in scoring at 14.3 points per game and scored in double figures 24 times this season. Thompson currently ranks third in the NCAA with 3.33 three-point field goals per game and has the fourth-highest total (110).

The sharpshooter finished her career at U-M with 198 three-pointers, ranking second on the all-time list. In Michigan's final game this season, she became the 24th Wolverine to eclipse the 1,000-point plateau and ended her career with 1,001 points.

Thompson, who was named to the All-Big Ten second team by both the coaches and media this year, is the first Wolverine to participate in the national event. The competition will take place at Georgia Tech's McCamish Pavilion.
