U-M Hockey: Final Game Against MSU Canceled

Submitted by Sione For Prez on March 5th, 2021 at 1:56 PM

Just received an email that the season finale against MSU next Wednesday was being canceled as a result of the B1G tournament being moved up to Sunday, March 14. This would allow both teams to have the same rest period as the other institutions.

Michigan plays at Minnesota tonight at 8PM and tomorrow at 5PM ET. Both games to be broadcast on BTN.

Thanks for sharing the update. Hopefully we play well this weekend and in the B1G Tourney to secure a spot in the NCAA tournament.

Given the way the NCAA Tourney plays out with single elimination, could see this team making a really deep run given the opportunity.

Hard to say.  If Michigan is swept by Minnesota, they end up 13-10-1 and probably need a win in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament.  Get a win against Minnesota and they are almost certainly in.

But it's strange this season following hockey and not knowing exactly what the selection criteria are going to be.  I hate trusting the NCAA Hockey Committee to do the right thing--it might seriously be the single worst NCAA single sport committee, and certainly the least willing to advance the best interests of their sport.

6 Conferences each get an auto bid, leaving 10 at large bids. A few bad teams will win their conference, and a Selection committee will choose the remaining teams instead of the Pairwise determining at-large bids. (Michigan is 18th in the Pairwise before the game against Minnesota tonight, which wouldn’t be good enough to make the tourney for reference)

Nobody really has any insight on their criteria other than it’s “eye test.” Michigan is probably safely in and a 2 seed, but without knowing the criteria, nobody really knows what will happen. The record isn’t great as a result of playing such a deep conference schedule, and that could potentially hurt Michigan. Nobody knows and it’s best if we just don’t leave it to chance.

Gotta at least split this weekend so that they don't go into the co ference tournament a bit nervous about their standing for the ncaa tournament.

Not great. That's a W we needed

Still no clue what this team's tourney chances are. Polls have us at 7, but if we're swept I could easily see us getting left out, and then again with the Ivies gone, there's less competition for spots this year. Who knows, but an easy W vs FYS would've helped
