Trouba named Captain of NYR

In some happier hockey news, M alum (and native Michigander) Jacob Trouba was announced as captain of the New York Rangers today.  Per The Athletic, Trouba is the 28th captain in NYR history and first to don the C since Ryan McDonagh did from 2014 to 2018.  Trouba was one of 6 alternate captains last season.  Congrats Jake!

My daughter had math class with him at Pioneer High and said he was one of the few nice, future millionaires in the USNTDP. The teacher now has a Trouba Rangers jersey hanging in her classroom.

Loved that they named Trouba, Captain. There were rumors out there that Gallant wanted to name him before last season began but someone above he and Chris Drury, looking at you "Lil Jimmy Dolan," put a stop to it.

He's more than deserving, has taken a lot of the kids mainly K'Andre Miller under his wing and seems to be well respected amongst his peers in that room.

The Rangers haven't had a captain since 2018?

Nope. Rolled with 5 assistants in 18/19 until Mats Zuccarello got traded then 4 the remainder of that year, 4 in 19/20 & 20/21 and 6 assistant's last year. Last time the Rangers were Captain-less were after Ryan Callahan got traded in the 13/14 season and then for the 05/06 season, before Jaromir Jagr was named, the following season.
