Chace Numata, 27, a Catcher who spent most of the year in Erie with a few games in Toledo. Died today after suffering a head injury in a fall from a skateboard a few days ago.

RIP young man, definitely praying for Chace and all who loved him.

Man, what a horrible rough story. Condolences to his family.

It doesn't seem clear if he was wearing a helmet, but chances are that he wasn't. Still is shocking to me to see how many adults and kids don't wear helmets when riding bikes. My kids think we are uncool for making them, but it's such an easy thing to do to protect yourself.

Well many of us grew up not even able to buy a helmet and none of my childhood friends had serious injury.  I've slowed down now, but snow skied from Alaska to CA and don't remember a serious injury while I was skiing.

I understand that times have changed and the new norm is to wear helmets, but SHOCKED... not sure its shocking when so many of us didn't wear them growing up.

I honestly don't mean to be a jerk about it, but saying something bad never happened to me so I shouldn't try to avoid the risk seems like flawed logic to me. Someone literally just died from a head injury, so this isn't an abstract thing. Do you apply the same life experience to airbags and seat belts?
