Summer and Fall Practice - Is it Restricted?

Submitted by jg2112 on
NCAA teams are restricted to 15 spring practices. My question extends past the spring. Are there similar restrictions on summer or fall pre-season camp? I have read that Coach Rod wants all of the class of 2009 on campus right after the end of the 08-09 school year. Will this be just for conditioning, or for formal practicing, or does formal practice only begin in August? Many questions here, my thanks in advance to those who know the answers.

Yep, it's very restricted. The summer workouts are all (wink wink) voluntary and informal. Pre-season work in August is similarly governed by NCAA rules that regulate the amount of time the coaches can spend formally with the team in practice.

The coaches can't have any formal or informal practices until fall. I think they can start practice 3 or 4 weeks before their 1st game. The summer is all Barwis and what the guys do by themselves. No I would assume the players are given drills or instructions on what to do when they do their 7 on 7 work but RR can't be yelling at them until August.
