The Streaks End

Not with a bang but a whimper.

I guess the only bang I can hear is the wallets of the boosters who give Michigan the money. 41 years of tradition, of winning, of respect now lies in the gutter. But, I will not concede! Never! I am BLUE through and through. My first pair of shoes were Maize and Blue Nikes from Mast's shoe store in downtown Ann Arbor. I had a Michigan football in my crib. I grew up watching the winning seasons and the history. I was only 11 when Charles put that rose between his teeth and I didn't see my first Michigan-Ohio State game until Tressel backed up his guarantee.

I guess when you go though four years of college at Michigan and you don't beat them once, you get down and depressed. But, I just can't imagine being a senior on this years football team. Making history for all the wrong reasons.

When others dropped the flag who will be there to pick it up? To tell the enemy that Michigan is still here. We will fight to the end.

There have been traditions ignored (captains, the #1 jersey thing) and streaks snapped and enemies gloating. It is not the time to turn on each other. Granted Schafer may have lost his job and creditability the minute a 3-3-5 defense was on the field. A subtle undercut by Rich shows he may have lost faith in Schafer. So be it. I don't care who coached the defense next year.

The echoes of the laughs and humilation Michigan has taken this year will sting for a while. I don't think I have gotten over the Horror. But, I believe in Rich, as he has won everywhere he has coached. Patience is a buzzword around this program and taking Lloyd's trait of looking up the definiton of  a  word is what we need. Patience: the state of endurance under difficult circumstances, which can mean persevering in the face of delay or provocation without becoming annoyed or upset; or exhibiting forbearance when under strain, especially when faced with longer-term difficulties. It is also used to refer to the character trait of being steadfast.

Steadfast. Endurance. Perserverance.

Stay strong, GO BLUE.
