Story of Junior Colson (2021 commit)
Nice Freep piece on the life story of Junior Colson (who is a 2021 linebacker commit):
We seem to have a LOT of international players -- Darboh, Welschof, Ojabo and the Wagner bros immediately come to mind. Really cool stuff!
The Civil War but I fricked it up so bad that the Irish take over America.
What a fantastic story! As one who has had the privilege of teaching and coaching adopted orphans brought to our academy from Ukraine, I would expect he has a bright future. Hard winds grow strong trees. Welcome to the Michigan family Junior! We look forward to seeing your opportunities broaden. And thank you to the Colson family for your investment in children.
Born in Haiti, Colson experienced loss earlier than most. When he was a small child, his father passed away. His father’s will stipulated that Colson live in an orphanage, in hopes that someone would adopt him and provide a better life. It meant leaving behind the rest of his family, including his mother, who remains alive.
What an incredible story. Not an expert on Haitian law by any means, but his mother must have given her permission for this to happen. That had to be incredibly difficult for everyone involved, & I will be rooting just a little extra for this young man.
This is just so crushingly sad to me. I'm really happy that he seems to be 100% a member of his adoptive family and things went great in the US; but the idea of separating a kid from their mom like that ... heartbreaking.
