I don't think this is bad for the team at all. In the long run this is probably the best case senerio. This way Tate gets more reps with the first team (which as a frosh he needs) and it doesn't really set Sheridan back that much.

I've often wondered whether Matt Gutierrez's shoulder injury was a blessing in disguise for M football (Henne went on to have a pretty solid freshman year/four year starter as a result). But maybe Gutierrez, sans injury, would've been a better quarterback that year and allowed Henne a year to grow and develop. I can see how this isn't a great parallel to draw to our current Sheridan and Forcier situation, but it's just a thought.

I am glad to know that he will not miss fall ball. That way if Tate absolutely bombs this year or gets hurt or whatever the case may be there will be someone who can step in there and at least know what to expect. D Rob will be there but I do not look for him to be ready for the field against Western like I think that Tate will be. Sheridan in our back pockets makes for a thin back pocket but I would rather have him than a Frosh with one month in practice.

Sheridan is needed for depth. I hope he gets a head start on his coaching career and isn't actually needed on the field, but he is a decent safety net, especially if he improves from last year. Ultimately, though, if Sheridan sees a lot of playing time, it doesn't bode well for the Wolverines.

Depth depth depth. It's all about depth. Especially at that position. Right now at this moment we have two (TWO!!) QB's that can take snaps right now. I hate to put all of our eggs into one basket this early, especially since he's a freshman.
