SB beats CSU Fullerton, Betsa bats for the first time!

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Today was a weird day. We started off against #22 Baylor at 3:30pm out at the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, CA.

The game was scoreless until the Top of the 7th and then the lack of run support finally crippled Betsa who was dealing, yet again. Baylor scored 4 in the inning and we could not muster anything in the B7. We had 2 hits for the entire game and as a result, lost 4-0 for the second straight game. Albeit against a ranked team. Coincidentally, we did get shutout by the #22 team the last time we played the #22 which was also at this tournament.

Later on in the night at 8pm, #14 Michigan took on tournament host Cal State Fullerton in a road game.

Again, the offense struggled to push across runs. At least the hits were coming, as we started off with two base knocks.

Things FINALLY came together in the 6th inning with the score deadlocked at 0-0.

Abby Ramirez got on with a single and then Faith Canfield said "enough is enough". She blasted it over the left field fence for a 2-run shot to give Michigan the 2-0 lead.

Tera Blanco got the start in this game against CSU Fullerton. Despite being serviceable, she would not finish the game. Megan Betsa would enter and Blanco would slide over to 1B. Being that Blanco was already in the game, Betsa would have to bat for the first time in her Michigan career.

In one of the weirdest at bats I've ever seen, she got on base! A base knock which was scored as an error on the 1B.

Michigan would hang on to win, 2-0. Blanco and Betsa combined for 11 Ks and 3 walks. The Wolverines recorded a weekend-high 6 hits. Not great by any means, but an improvement. And great to see the long ball make an appearance.

Michigan is now 11-6-1 and will face Long Beach State in the tournament finale.

LBSU lost to Florida (a team we lost to in extras) by a score of 17-0 on Thursday. This is a bad team that we NEED TO run rule. Just for confidence sake in my opinion.

Here's a photo of Betsa batting. Very weird.

Was following the Cal State game which was quite a pitching duel.  Nice win on their homefield.  Hope they close out tomorrow with a win, but will probably drop a couple more spots in the polls early next week.

I wish we'd wear white pants. The blue ones just don't look good with lighter jerseys, in my opinion. All blue is fine, but this could be sharper.

I considered suggesting maize pants and realized that it would be a horrible idea, an even worse look, so my takeaway is that it could be worse.

Been a tough-ish start to the season, but not every team can be loaded with ball-scorching seniors.

I took my family to the game and as Betsa went to the plate my daughter pointed out to me she was wearing a batting helmet with #2 on it. Betsa is #3. Apparently she didn't even have a batting helmet on the trip so safe to say this was a little off script. #2 is Aiden Falk who Blanco replaced at first when Betsa came into the game to pitch. Made good contact and was able to beat out what I guess was charged as an infield error. Big smiles for her and her teammates.

a dissapointing start to the season due to ONE factor...Stranding runners, Streanding runners, and STRANDING runners..Against all the quality teams weve faced this year we have little run support and could have won many of those games...We are seeing the effect of the departure of so many big bats....With so many non con losses we are probably fighting now just to host a regional....we would have to pretty much run the table from this point forward to get a top 8 seed and just dont see that happening....
