The saddest part.....

Submitted by New Carr on

I was just thinking over lunch....

One of the saddest parts of this season and the recent losses is we can not truly appreciate and enjoy the awesomeness that is D-Rob and this offense.  The suckness of the defense and lack of recent wins has taken focus off of what is truly a historically sweet offense.  Sure there are mistakes here and there and drives bog down in the redzone too often, but these guys are flying up and down the field.

This is exactly (on offense) what we were all dreaming about when RR took over.  We were so tired of the "off tackle left" strategy, and unimaginative Lloyd Carr days.  We wanted the spread!, and in that sense, RR has clearly delivered.  We all figured, "Wow, with our UM recruiting pull, and RR's X and O magic, this could be a match made in heaven.  And the fact is, on offense, it really is!  Imagine how good this offense would be if they could get a couple more possessions a game due to turnovers or defensive stops, and weren't pressured to catch up every time they took the field!!!!  Oh, and BTW...The starting qb is a TRUE SOPHOMORE, who didn't even start last year.

My point is not to cover up the obvious deficiencies of the defense which have been discussed ad-nauseaum on this board and in the media in general.  I am simply saying I wish we could enjoy watching the monster that RR has created on offense.  With a serviceable to average defense this team would be good.  This is what we all figured....RR's offense + Michigan recruiting + Good defense = Nasty Team.  Can we blame RR for the defense not being better...sure!   But really, who could foresee the decimated secondary.  A defensive coach such as Bo Pelini might be able to get this specific defense to rank 80th in the country in total defense....but, really optimizing the D is not RR's thing.  Clearly we need a new coordinator, but to fire an offensive Guru coach who has created one of the top offenses in the country from nothing in 3 years (that right, he had no spread offense players upon arrival) would be very foolish.

If Carvin Johnson, Josh Furhman, Troy Woolfolk, Cullen Christian, Marvin Robinson grow into what we think they can be next year...we could be very dangerous.
