Rose Bowl bid change

Apparently, if the Rose Bowl loses a team to the National Championship - and a non-BCS school is in the top 12 - they HAVE to invite that school as a replacement.
Michigan-TCU anyone?
Old news, but I'm not shocked by this. A lot of people were very pissed off by the Illinois invite and the BCS is trying desperately to improve.
If Illinois would have shown up in that game the consensus might not be as bad... I laughed at all my friends who spent a ton of cash to see that slaughter... laughed even harder at the ones who thought they had a chance going into that game...
Consensus was already bad going in. Part of the idea of having five BCS games is to create the best matchups, the Rose Bowl ruined it that year. Though, thanks for that Citrus Bowl.
I think you mean USC-TCU...while we're playing Florida for the national championship
Right ... my mistake.
nope Indiana-Eastern
It's a one shot deal over the four years though -- they have to do it the first time, but if it happens again they can go back to inviting another Big 10 or Pac 10 team that's BCS eligible if they want.
And yeah...I'm still ticked off by it, as I am any time it's not Big 10 vs. Pac 10.
It's to the point where I hope Michigan goes undefeated, but we somehow end up #3 in the BCS to two one-loss SEC/Big 12 teams. (Which the way the Big Ten is ragged on isn't out of the realm of possibility.)
Then at least a team like 2007 Hawaii, or a 1984 BYU for that matter, wouldn't go to Pasadena having beaten no one in the top 20.
Utah, for example, beat two top 20 teams last year. BYU couldn't find any big teams to play them in 1984 because they were afraid. We were 6-5, otherwise not really being considered for a bowl, and we were the only team willing to lose to BYU in the Holiday Bowl.
Do you know what programs BYU was trying to schedule in 1984 that backed out? Like Hawaii in 2007, they went unbeaten and got rewarded while playing no one in the top 20.
Note that I didn't mention Utah in my rant; they actually proved themselves against good opponents. But most years in the WAC and Mountain West aren't like last year.
And...ANY time the Rose Bowl is not Big 10/Pac 10 I don't like it.
