Ronnie Brown does his best Darren McFadden impression

Submitted by Chrisgocomment on

Did anyone else see the barrage of touchdowns scored by The Miami Dolphins against the Patriots yesterday?  Ronnie Brown and 4 RUSHING TOUCHDOWNS AND ONE TOUCHDOWN PASSING.  It was incredible.  He did his best Darren McFadden impression and totally thumped on the Pats.  Supposedly the Pats have a great defense, right?  Or was that Shawn Crable out there getting pwned on the read-option again?

I wonder if this is a sign of things to come in the NFL?  I've never seen an offense like that in the NFL, could it be great news for the future of recruiting in Ann Arbor?  Now, I'm not much for analyzing offenses and defenses and what kind of scheme they are running (I'll leave that up to Brian and that GSimmons coach guy) but weren't they running a Rich Rod type of read-option offense with Brown?

They also rolled up like 250 rushing yards on the Pats - Ricky Williams had almost 100 yards on 11 carries.

My fantasy opponent this week had Ronnie Brown. Needless to say, I got my ass whipped.

That sucks.......I've never played fantasy football....but my strategy would be to play whomever is going up against the Lions defense.......jezzzz they blow.  I wonder if they can make every average QB look like a Pro Bowler this year?

Let's see, for the rest of this year they are going up against:

  1. Kyle Orton...he sucks, but will torch the Lions
  2. Gus Frerotte...didn't even know he still played, he will pwn them.
  3. Matt Schaub..I think he's pretty good....400+yards, 6 TD
  4. Jason Campbell...he's pretty decent....that will be brutal
  5. David Garrard....he loves the Lions
  6. Jake Delhomme....if he played the Lions everyweek = Super Bowl + Pro Bowl + Hall of Fame
  7. Brian Griese....OMG it will be easy to cheer for TB & Griese
  8. Kerry Collins....he blows.  Against the Lions he rewlez
  9. Payton.....dear god that will be a slaughter
  10. Drew Brees....also slaughter
  11. Aaron Rogers...could you imagine if the Lions drafted him?  He'd be out of the league by now.  That dude should thank his lucky stars.

But I strongly suspect that it was a one-game, one-time thing.  I'm sure they'll use it again - hell, you use it until someone stops it - but with time to adjust/react to the formation, I think the success will prove to be fleeting.

Which shouldn't take away from the plaudits for the Dolphins coaching staff, who earned a blowout victory this past weekend.  I just don't expect anything resembling a shift in how NFL offenses are deployed.

to say the least. Maybe a play or 2, here or there for the rest of the season. I'm quite sure it won't be the feature style of the Dolphins.

Fun to watch, for sure.

and it was only used really in the red zone. Once outside of it and ricky had a big run.  It worked I think because the Pats had no clue we were going to use it and just about everytime it worked ronnie or ricky(usually ronnie) broke a tackle at the line of scrimmage. So I think it was more the running backs than the formation.

Vick was running the Spread zone read option with Dunn and Norwood quite a bit.  That was when Atlanta was putting up 200+ yards a game, but then teams started to bring a safety up to the line and force Vick to throw.

So it could work in the NFL but you either need a mobile QB with an accurate arm or use it every so often with a RB/WR like Miami/Arkansas has done.

and watched the first half.  The Dolphins OL was wrecking the Pats.  The tactical ploy wasn't the issue so much as a really bad looking front 7.  I saw Jake really get after Richard Seymour and pretty much whoever else came his way.  Damn he was good.

That fucking sucked.  The Pats couldn't defend against a goddamn college play.  Was it a jet sweep zone read?  Is that what it would be called?  The defense should have played a whole lot better than it did, and Matt Cassell sucks.
