Although the given list of potential replacements is small, Casteel doesn't appear to be a target for the position.

Could this be what RR has been waiting for?

Edit: I'm not sure how credible SB Nation is. If this is completely unfounded, please excuse my ignorance.

Seems like there is no way he would stay at WVU.  If he is passed over a second time he has to realize they just arent going to make him head coach.  From Casteel's perspective the michigan DC job has to be about perfect.  No where to go but up, lots or returning players, if the michigan d were to be ranked 60th nationally next year under casteel he would be considered a miracle worker and greatly enhance his resume for a head job somewhere.  Even if he hates rodriguez, i'm not sure why he wouldnt just use him for a year or two to improve his resume so he can get a head coaching job down the road.
