Quick Basketball Thought For Today's Game. A Historical Comparison

obviously there is a ton of good recruiting discussion going on this morning with the possible Rogers commit and Gardner's enrollement issue clearing up. But a quick hoop thought. Today reminds of 24 years ago when a struggling Michigan team welcomed in a Big East power. They hosted 5th ranked Syracuse, the team that eventually lost the NCAA title game to IU. Michigan then and Michigan now needed a big win to salvage what had been an uninspiring and NIT-worthy start of the season. In 1987, Michigan won 91-88 jumpstarting themselves to an eventual tournament bid. We'll see if this year's outfit can follow suit, but matching their first step--a win over Big East power--is all that is important today. I wrote more extensively about the 1987 game and todays game over the the JCB. Otherwise, if you guys want to turn this into the open thread for the hoops game and everything else go ahead. Or start fresh. I just wanted to throw the 1987 comparison out there.
