Peppers Hype: Harbaugh

Submitted by uofmchris on

It is no secret that Jim Harbaugh is all in on the Peppers/Heisman hype train. From a coach who's basic foundation is molded around ''The Team, The Team, The Team", I do find it interesting that Jim is not afraid to publicy state that Peppers is the best player on the field, at all times. Dont get me wrong, I love that he has the kids back, and obviously he preaches the truth, but part of me wonders if this is Harbaugh being Harbaugh. I wonder if he is angling all of this ''best player'' talk as a way to possibly get Peppers back for 1 more year after this year? Peppers is more than likely a sure fire top 10 pick, but let's say he doesnt win the Heisman... Is Peppers so competitive that he would think about coming back to be the pre-seaon Heisman leader?  I will say that if he does come back, he would no doubt be the clear cut #1 Hiesman candidate.... And he knows his coach would back him from day 1.

Is a top 10 draft choice Peppers ceiling? Or is a top 10 draft pick and Heisman winner Peppers ultimate goal? We shall see.

All of that said... BEAT BYE!

Harbaugh has been consistent in praising players over others... he uses it as motivation.

He is also smart, and will do whatever he can to get Peppers the Heisman Trophy, for its great for the program.  It'll give us another edge, that we lost with RR and Hoke, and put us back to where we belong.

1) Helps Recruiting.  Shows top future players that Harbs stands behind his guys and promotes them when applicable.

2) A Reward for Peppers.  He has been great and deserves it.

3) Shows NJ guys that they willl be rewarded.

4) Great for Michigan to get even more exposure nationally with top player.

5) Peppers is Heisman worthy

6) Peppers will be crazy if he does not leave for the NFL after this season.  One knee injury can cost a player hundreds of millions of dollars.   Anyone hoping that he stays, will be doing so for selfish interests.  Whats best for Pepp is to get the degree this year, get to the NFL and make millions to set up his family for life.

Myles Jack (LB/RB) is not in the same level as Jabrill Peppers but had a break out year being both offensive and defensive player of the month in the PAC12 (if I recall right) and looked like a great star for UCLA - he came back and ripped up a knee - he had surgery, went into rehab and turned pro - he 's plays on the Jacksonville Jaguars but clearly not at the draft position he had hoped.

Don't begrudge him if he leaves after this year. If he is a top 10 pick as probably a edge defender who can also return punts, kick-offs and be a threat in goal line and short yardage packages he'll definitely be taken somewhere. It seems that he has a good focus on what matters and I suspect he'll make the most of his experience/education/connections.

The top kids want to play on Sunday, and a big selling point is that UM will get them ready. When they get here honestly most will realize that only a few will have a good chance and most of the team knows that this will be the last level they play at. How many kids even get drafted or signed - 10% (being generous). But for elite level skills like him, this is becoming a more and more likely event and his success will only help the program draw more top players.

What is hard to tell is who among the so-called 3 and 4 star players can develop in college. Chesson and Darboh clearly did and so has Chris Evans. He is looking more and more like next year's number 1 RB if not already.

Harbaugh is about competition. He has never been shy about publicly ranking performances every week. If these players are going to win a championship, they will use this as motivation. That's the environment Harbaugh has created, and that's why he's the best.

Keeping peppers on the heisman scene is not only logical (because he is the best player in CFB), but beneficial for recruiting. All of these athletic kids are taking notice of what Harbaugh is doing with this amazing athlete named Jabrill. I read a quote a while back from one of the recruits after a visit saying that Harbaugh indicated he could see this recruit (can't remember who he was) being used in the same way as peppers
