The Otter and Michael Carter

Submitted by Henne for Heis… on
Some info on the Otter: The daily drama that is the recruitment of five-star defensive tackle William Campbell from Detroit Cass Tech took a few twists and turns Tuesday. The morning started off with a not-so-solid tip that Campbell might be choosing Florida because the Gators have dropped Pompano Beach (Fla.) Ely cornerback Michael Carter, apparently to make room for someone the staff didn't expect they were getting. But that someone likely isn't going to be Campbell. One source, Campbell's roommate here in San Antonio, said he thinks LSU will be the team the big man chooses Saturday. Oak Park (Mich.) HIgh running back Edwin Baker isn't playing this week because of a knee injury, but he's Campbell's roommate and said Campbell talks about LSU all the time. Stay tuned. On Michael Carter: If UF drops him, he's left with Minnesota and WVU, which do not seem like intimidating schools. Is some oil in store for him? Or maybe he's just not interested.

So now we have Campbell telling one recruit he was just messing around, and telling another it's LSU. I'm going to take Edwin Baker's words with a grain of salt. That's just me, though.

Stop posting about the Otter. This is the kind of stuff that always makes me remember I could care less about who is wearing the winged helmet. I cheer for the winged helmet, the Victors, Big Blue, NOT THE OTTER. Contrary to the recruiting mess I read about every day, I'd be happy with 85 Michiganders from Alpena on the roster as long as they played honestly, precisely and with integrity. I realize that's a minority viewpoint in the world of recruiting, but the whole Rivals/Scout/blogging world is really nauseating. Time to see what else is being reported.....

...and fact and sarcasm and wit woven throughout the message. I really just want everyone to commit to where they are going, honor their commitments, and then get ready for the 2009 season. Michigan's had the "sketchy" talent (Manningham, Marlin Jackson, Arrington, et al), and the in-state kids who love the school at the same time. Let's have it all. Nothing wrong with a bunch of three stars who would walk to Columbus to beat up the Buckeyes in November for the pride of Ann Arbor.

you root for gvsu? i agree the recruiting process is crazy, ridiculous, useless, but i still pay attention. i'm going to root for great players to come here. always. talent is the most important thing. the hard working lions, who worked til the very end, and didn't look to give up, still went 0-16. They played hard, worked hard, but were not pro football players. heart isn't everything.talent isn't everything either though, ask the dallas cowboys.

...has a fabulous recruiting class, with or without a North American River OTTER (the subject of my first-year law school term paper, by the way) committing. I'm thoroughly convinced Rich Rod will bring in five more fabulous scholarship athletes and a group of talented walk-ons as well. The level of hysteria surrounding the OTTER is absurd. If he wants to go South, go South young man and get buried on a depth chart.

...that Michael Carter's uncle is Tyrone Carter, who went to Minnesota and plays for Pittsburgh. He also is the holder of a very unique NCAA record. He scored touchdowns on fumble returns, as a DB, on consecutive plays. It was the first time it ever happened in the NCAA. How do I know this? I was there. Where was this? Metrodome. When? September 21, 1996. My Mom's 42nd Birthday, and her first ever college football game. Who was Minnesota playing? Syracuse. Who was Syracuse's QB, who fumbled twice? Donovan F. McNabb.
