OTish: 2022 World Juniors 2.0 - USA vs Germany Recap
So the 2022 World Juniors tournament wasn't canceled, only postponed. Team USA opened against Germany and rolled 5-1. They came out buzzing, but the German goalie stopped 14 shots before Luke Hughes scored on a point shot that deflected off a German for the opening goal. He's the first Hughes brother to score in the World Juniors.
Other Wolverines on the team are Mackie Samoskevich, Jake Truscott, and alum Thomas Bordeleau. (Kent Johnson is on Team Canada.)
2nd goal came late in the 1st period on the PP, as a German took a major for an illegal check to the head. It was unlucky as the American kind of squatted down as he braked, putting his head in elbow range. It was reviewed, and while the announcers mused that it was incidental contact, international rules are not forgiving, and the German was gone.
3rd goal came not long after the penalty was over early in the 2nd period on a zero angle shot which somehow got in. Hughes got an assist. 36 sec later USA scored #4. After the German goalie stopped 23 shots in the 1st period, these goals were kinda surprising. 5th goal was late in the period.
Germany scored in the 3rd on a PP. An American lost his helmet and played the puck, which is an international no-no. A German skated through everybody and scored.
Next game is Thursday night 10PM ET vs Switzerland. Then Austria on Sat at 2PM ET, and Sweden on Sun at 10PM ET.

The whole time I read this I thought this was talking about soccer until I saw the word "puck". Guess I am in a soccer mindset with the Premier League starting.

I should've noticed it with the "14 shots on goal" or the "1st period" but a couple of ranch waters and half a bottle of wine got me feeling different you know?

Yeah I was expecting this to be a U23 soccer tournament...

Ditto.
I assumed this to be soccer.
Then I saw "Luke Hughes".

Same, was shocked we destroyed Germany in soccer until I saw Luke Hughes’ name come up

Shots on goal rarely paints the whole picture...but USA outshooting Germany 50-11 pretty much paints the whole picture.
