you realize that poor fielding would have a negative pressure on:
1) the amount of wins he gets
2) the amount of runs he allows
3) the amount of hits he allows
all of which matter to the Cy Young.
Right?

In regards to the situation he was talking about (PFP and Verlander throwing away the bunt attempt) only #1 could really be affected.
2) People look at earned runs and the error that he committed will a lot of times eliminate it from being earned (see Verlander: 8 IP 2 R 0 ER 1 H)
3) Not sure how him throwing the ball away gives up hits, but ok. His fielding overall is fine and he is pretty athletic so he will be able to eliminate more hits than say...CC, its just that he isn't always great throwing to first. Plus I have never heard anyone mention hits in a Cy Young Debate.
Verlander leads the league in Wins (tied with CC), Ks, and is 3rd in ERA. He keeps this pace up he will probably pass Weaver in ERA and battle CC for wins. He wont lose the K battle to anyone as he already owns that by a wide margin. Throw in a No-Hitter and potentially leading the team to a division title along with the huge number of innings he is racking up and the public perception he has right now...Cy Young Leader at the moment.

I think they're talking about his own fielding, so that would have a very minimal effect on all that stuff. Besides, poor fielding can also change what could have been an earned run into an unearned one, so one's ERA can theoretically benefit.

Plus he leads the majors in WHIP, so clearly his fielding isn't putting extra guys on base
