OT- Take on #deflategate

Submitted by benjamint1024 on

This Boston Barstool Sports Blogger says it's a conspiracy.   An excerpt from his article:

"But rather than do that the Colts risked playing at a disadvantage. Why? The answer is twofold. 1. Deflated balls don’t make a lick of difference and #2 the Colts knew they had no shot beating us anyway. This was their only weapon. Not to win on the field, but to tattle on us after the fact. That’s how pathetic they are. They just did it because that’s what kids who get shoved in lockers do. They can’t stand up to us on the field so they wait till there are tucked safely in their beds in Indy to open their mouths. They hate us cause they ain’t us."

That's the paragraph that that got me.

I thought some of you that aren't 100% tired of deflate gate might enjoy this off the wall take on the situation.  If there is anybody that isn't tired of it.

My first MGoBoard post.  Feel free to let me know if I suck or not.

The pats whipped the Colts. According to available info, the Pats footballs were inflated to the proper PSI at halftime (after Jackson's whimpering). The Pats out scored the Colts 28-0 in the second half.

Pats would have won by 30 playing with a deflated football, soccer ball, bocce ball, whiffle ball, snowball or a decapitated goat head.

If the Patriots did something to the balls after the ref inspection, it's cheating, and Tom surely knew. If not, it's not cheating. Either way it's only a big deal as a matter of principle, and not of practical significance.

that the balls were fine when they left the refs room before the game, yet were deflated at halftime. The Colts balls were not deflated. So someone deflated the Patriot's balls. Seems pretty hard to believe Tom didn't at least know about it.

The fooballs are boxed up with only 2.5 to 3 PSI of air before being shipped to the various stadiums.  24 game balls are pressurized and inspected by the officials.  If an air compressor was used (quite plausible), it is possible that the balls were pressurized with air hotter than ambient locker room temperature. If the balls were at the NFL minimum when checked, 12.5 PSI, and the compressed air temperature in the ball was 75F, then taking them outside to 50F temps would see their pressures drop well below 11.5 PSI.  If the air used to inflate the balls was humid, the drop in temperature would create water condensation in the ball dropping the pressure even more.

Now why was there no problem with the balls the Colts were using?  Answer, you don't rat out your opposition until you make sure your ducks are in a row.  The Colts likely ensured their own footballs were meeting specs before making a fuss.

Of course something so innocent, yet difficult for the layman to understand, just won't cut it with Joe Six Pack, ergo Tom Brady is a conniving cheat.
