OT: Soccer US U-20 WNT Beat Mexico 4-0, Qualify for World Cup

Submitted by I Bleed Maize N Blue on

On Friday the U-20 USWNT beat Mexico 4-0 in the semis of the CONCACAF tournament and thus qualify for the U-20 Women's World Cup in Japan starting August 19.

The upper right of the Mexican goal got abused on all 4 goals, one from close range, the remaining ones from outside the box.

On the first goal Katie Stengel made a nice run into the box, eluded a defender near the end line and crossed.  G Cecilia Santiago deflected it, and it dropped for Julie Johnston at the far post, and she roofed it (12').

Second goal was a lovely free kick from Morgan Brian from 27 yds in front of goal (36').  Soon after Lindsey Horan hit the same spot (38').  Kealia Ohai finished the scoring (81').

Canada has also qualified, and the US will face them for the championship on Sunday @ 8 PM EDT on concacaf.com.  Mexico plays Panama for the 3rd qualifying spot.

I kid, my little sister actually played at Samford, and I enjoy female soccer. Good for the Ladies, what a great program we've built for women's soccer in this country.
