OT - Reddit CFB Risk Update 7/1: A Great Blue Wall (3 Days Left!)

Submitted by Michigan CFB R… on

This may have been the best night the Alliance has ever had. Florida holds the #1 spot with 40 territories. Michigan holds the #2 with 28, a four territory jump from yesterday. In the third spot is, unfortunately, Ohio State with a lowly 12 spots. Nebraska is even further behind that with 10.

We're in the end game now, and we're setting up incredibly well for the last day. There is now a great blue Floridian wall separating Chaos and the full force of Nebraska from the Midwest. Texas has regained the majority of Texas from the Aggies, while GT has suffered some drawbacks against OSU. Michigan, however, has carved out a huge section of the Northeast for ourselves. Right now, we own both East Lansing, Ann Arbor, and Columbus.

With only three days left, Michigan is in a great spot. If everyone here continues to participate, we can finish this game #1.

Also, congratulations to maizenbluegiant for winning the MGoContest yesterday!

Announcement: Please don’t post your orders anywhere (mgoblog included). Other teams visit this blog in hopes of seeing what we will be doing, and it would be much better it if they were left in the dark. If you have a question about an assignment, try to ask it in general terms, instead of naming specific territories.

Steps To Play Every Day:

  1. Sign up for a reddit.com account if you don’t have one already
  2. Visit https://flair.redditcfb.com/ " go to “find by conference," click “FBS” then “Big 10” and finally “Michigan” to set yourself as a member of our team. Click “Update Flair” to set it.
  3. Visit https://michigancfbrisk.com/ and click “Get Order!”
  4. Click the blue chessboard beneath the logo that you’re meant to attack/defend to take you to the game.
  5. Scroll down, now, and on the right hand side of the screen, you will see the options that you can attack or defend. Click the school logo that you were assigned to.

Do not ever attack any territory that is owned by one of our allies unless specifically told to do so in your orders. Our allies are Clemson, Florida, Georgia Tech, and Texas. If you get an order to attack an ally owned territory then it means we are coordinating with them, so it is acceptable. Otherwise, do not attack allied territories or defend territories that allies border please!

Make sure you aren't flagged as a bot

One potential issue with the influx of new users we had is that some players may have been flagged as a bot and therefore their actions may not be counting. If you are flagged as a bot you will see the image below on vote.redditcfb.com

Not so sure I like the metaphor of a Midwestern great Blue Wall.  Certainly let's not mention it with hubris; my gut says that may be poor strategy.

Our turnout tonight, Monday, and especially Tuesday will decide the game.

If you've played at all, come click on Monday and Tuesday.  If you haven't played, swoop in late for us to steal another territory from OSU on Tuesday and get a chance to spike your mgopoints

Have I mentioned Tuesday? Tonight's important, but you should really really play on Tuesday.

I have played every day since I started around day 15. Got to admit I'm bored of this.  Why are we going to lose despite our superior army?  I must blame someone.  I'm a Florida alum and am disappointed we are going to lose to them.

Florida has an additional 2000 weighted stars on us, because they have 100 5-stars, which are worth 3,200 one stars. We are currently #2 star-wise with a weighted star count of 4865. Florida has a count of 7062.

Still, anything can happen. There are still 3 days left, and a lot can happen in 3 days.

They are WEIGHTED stars (The Mods changed the rules towards the beginning of the game, because of the awesome MgoHorde recruitment!) and the rules changed midway (which prevented the MgoHorde from leveling up to a stronger weight, while not specially directed at us... it had by far the most consequences for us)

Considering ALL of the inherent adversity the Allies have faced with rule changes twice (both times either directly or indirectly favoring Nebraska) and Chaos' singular penchant for attacking Florida early, the fact that Florida is #1, Michigan is #2 and  Nebraska is #4 is a HELL of an outcome.

Power, with stars weighted:

Florida: 7062

Michigan: 4865

Nebraska: 4404

OSU:  4068 *

*with the help of Tennessee and Virginia Tech Rouges who can fight for OSU because OSU holds their territory

Plus if this game occurs next year, Michigan with everyone that was involved this year (MgoHorde!) we should be in an even stronger position to challenge for the top position.

Additionally, we will not turn on our Allies.  We are building a reputation as solid and reliable partners so be able to form strong alliances in the future.  Something that Nebraska with their play this round may not as fortunate to do...

I don’t get why anyone would be upset that our ally is going to finish in first place and we finish in second.

I’d say a huge reason our alliance is doing so well is that we trust our allies and they trust us.  The red alliance has some strong members but there’s going to be a lack of trust due to Nebraska cannibalizing their allies.

Being known as a trustworthy ally will also only benefit us in any future iterations as well.

I’m against stabbing allies in the back but I’m also just a lowly 2 Star, so what do I know?
