OT-Question for Linux users

Submitted by Dark Blue on
So this is probably the wrong place to pose this question, but what the hell. I just made the switch to Fedora 12 and I'm having some trouble getting Java installed and running. The Java Website has a step by step guide for installing in a Linux based system, but it's not working for me. Anyone who could point me in the right direction will get a +1. Thanks Mgocommunity for your help.

You will probably find more helpful information, and more people willing to help, if you describe what "it's not working for me" means. Are you getting an error? What is the error? Installing could and should be as simple as unpacking the tarball and making sure it is in your path. However, there are a number of things that could go wrong apart from that.

Are you trying to install Java directly from the tarball, or are you trying to install via a package manager? Sometimes using one method is far more trouble than the other. I've had the same trouble at times with Ubuntu, especially with Eclipse (using the package manager just royally screwed it up). Just an idea. Good luck.
