OT - Parking at Yost

Submitted by killerseafood3 on November 10th, 2023 at 8:49 AM

All,

just a quick question. Heading to my first hockey game at Yost tonight. Any recommendations on how parking is handled? Any other tips for my first game? Taking my 6year old daughter, so family friendly :)

Park in the lot to the north and west of the arena.

Can get in off of State Street.

I think it's $10 or so.  It's university parking.

You could drive around the neighborhoods across State Street looking for a space on the street, but I find it not to be worth the hassle just to save $10 or so.

Most parking is right next to the arena, north side. Of course you may find street parking. 5 - 10 minute walk, depending on when you get there. Yost is to the right of the baseball diamond.

Park at the Crisler lot next to the train tracks and walk over from there. It's free.

Edit: basketball tonight complicates this, as noted below. But that's the play for non-basketball days.

This is the answer MOST games - basketball turns this free lot, a short walk past football practice field and softball, into a pay lot with three times the traffic both before and after.

Get there early 5:45-6:00, park in the neighborhood east of State south of Packard (students abandon parking spots after a  long week of playing school). Walk up State, eat a nice campus dinner at Pizza Bob’s or Mr. Spots, and then stroll down to Yost and make sure to find Scanner by the Zamboni pit between periods.

Just park in the main lot at Yost.  It's cheap and a short walk.  It's not like parking for a football game.  I went to the MSU-UM hockey game last year and parking was quick and easy

You can park in the lot if you get there early enough.  I think it is $15.00.

I don't think you will be able to park over at Crisler tonight because there is a basketball game going on at the same time (thanks, Warde /s).

I have seen some people let you park on their yard.  I think $10.

All of the parking spaces on State Street were ripped out over the summer so parking will be tighter than last  year.

Family friendly? - Your daughter may be getting an introduction to inappropriate language tongiht.

Family-friendly Children of Yost explanation:

When a player for the other team does a bad thing, they get a penalty and go to time out. The students chant to let them know to not do that bad thing again.

Lump: as in lump of coal for a naughty kid

Trick: the player tried to trick the referee

Sus: he's a suspicious player (it's what kids say these days)

Smooshbag: he should punch a pillow if he's angry, not another player

Passhole: It's a hockey term for a pass between the legs

Trick: same as above

Cheater: self-explanatory

Witch: a mean, ugly, tricksy person

Snore: the player in the penalty box can take a quick nap

Nut: a joke about bad Buckeyes

Socksucker: a joke about tasting gross hockey socks

There’s a big lot east of Chrisler along Stadium where you can park for free. Walk to the northeast corner and follow the crowd to Yost.   Can’t be more than 1/2 mile, if that.

Some out of town fan had this exact problem for Gymnastics or Volleyball when I was down at the Lacrosse stadium. He shows me the map on his phone with Chrysler Center, Arthur Miller Theatre , Bonisteel Dr. etc - saying “ I know it’s around here somewhere, but the map says it’s 15 minutes away!”

The neighborhoods east and just southeast of Yost you can park for free on the street. Short walk as well. Sure it’s a gamble but in the limited hockey games I’ve been too we’ve never had a problem.
