OT: NPR features veteran support org started in A2

Submitted by Sopwith on

This is probably old news to veterans and many Ann Arbor residents who know about Team Red, White, and Blue and it's links to UM already, but I'd never heard of them until this piece on NPR's Morning Edition today. (LINK)  The story opens up in Gallup Park and details how Team RWB started up as a way for veterans to connect with each other and the community through fitness activities. Started 5 years ago, now has 83k members.

Mike Erwin, Army vet of Aghanistan and Iraq, founded the group when he was a grad student at UM and is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors. Link to Team RWB website

I thought the interviews with the members were extremely interesting... and the first thing I thought to myself was whether I've ever asked someone who served in Iraq/Afghan  "What's it like over there?" Having listened to this now, I kinda hope I haven't.

The founder, Mike Erwin, told a great story of how a member of Team RWB helped support him durng a rough time in his divorce.  The story is definitely worth a listen.

We need more organizations like this. I do some limited work helping veterans here in NC who are in danger of homelessness. More help is needed nationwide ...
