OT: Lost Michigan ring / Irv Pankey follow up happy endings
As we wait for the draft I saw two stories in the news today that had follow ups to recent threads.
The person searching for the missing ring owner, Gary Franklin, actually found him. The ring was lost recently while snorkeling. How is a 2012 graduate not on mgoblog??? Article is paywalled and I didn't see it anywhere else. Please paste the rest if anyone has access.
ANN ARBOR, MI -- Gary Franklin wore his University of Michigan class ring every day since he graduated in 2012. But when it slipped off his finger while recently snorkeling in Mexico, he thought it was gone forever.
“He wears his wedding ring on one hand and class ring on the same finger on the other hand,” said Nekea Franklin, Gary’s wife. “He wears a watch and a bracelet, and that’s what he wears every single day.”

The hero from the ugly Penn State rapist story, Irv Pankey, is now dating the survivor he protected while in school. Very cool. There's a video at the end of the linked twitter thread from the author of the story.

I enjoyed this Twofer post - the happy ending connection was fun to read about

I would like to meet Irv and shake his hand. He did something that everyone on the team would probably think he is crazy for doing at that time, just because he was a good human. I honestly can't say that I would have the balls to do the same.

....so does Robert Kraft.
And DeShaun Watson...allegedly.
But, he's "busy" with his job in Cleveland so we won't know until next year sometime.

Most wholesome "happy endings" post possible.
Came for the happy ending. Left enriched.
Kidding aside, I read through the Penn St story twice. It's seeing stories like Betsy and Irv grow from that beginning that makes me think just maybe there is a little hope left for humanity.
Betsy and Irv!! A lot of courage and strength of character in that couple.
It’s great when people can turn something so horrible into something good.
Also good to know Gary survived the shark attack.
Happy Endings where?
