OT LIons: CJ Gardner-Johnson non contact knee injury
Obviously could be something minor, I just dread the "non-contact" leg injury.
EDIT** Maybe not so bad? fingers crossed.
Unfortunately based on the reactions of his teammates when it happened the majority of the Twitters feel it's anything but minor.
That really sucks.
He was carted off the field. It does not sound good.
Edit. Trainers-“some optimism it is not season ending”
And some of the Lion beat writers that were there said it looked pretty bad when it happened. Hoping for the best, but with this cursed franchise, things like this are usually not "best-case scenario."
Thankfully the Lions drafted Alabama safety Brian Branch this year. While ideally he would have been their #3 safety / nickel to start the season, its now very likely he'll slide in as a day 1 starter.
Tweets from multiple sources (Tom Pelissero, Justin Rogers, Brad Galli, Pride of Detroit and Honolulu Blues) are now saying he's fine after undergoing tests. More tests to come, but he appears to be OK.
Apparently he had an early afternoon tee time and was trying to get out of practice? (just kidding, of course)
Hopefully he's OK. Loved his play on my Eagles last season and would love to see him reach a similar level in Detroit.
It's the Lions man. It is an actual curse, it's real.
If the Lions are ever going to breakthrough it is going to be because they did despite these kind of things happening EVERY year, not because they don't happen. They are going to happen.
Its not a curse. You're skewed by the fact that the Lions organization has been so overwhelmingly incompetent for the past 50+ years that any accidental success that's upended by even the slightest misfortune feels like a 'curse.'
They're probably about average in terms of 'bad luck.' But their success or potential success is so sporadic that it just feels 'cursed' when one rogue positive sign is wiped out by misfortune.
I think the fact that they have been overwhelmingly incompetent for 50 years is part of the curse.
is it considered a curse when it's self-inflicted?
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: While the Lions ownership and management is far from strong, they have, in fact, several different times, put together legitimately good teams. One year they had the No. 1 offense in football, and then got blown out in the first round of the playoffs. Barry Sanders ±— in my opinion the best running back of all time not named Jim Brown —averaged 77 yards per game in the playoffs, with a grand total of one playoff touchdown (and one year (1994) totaled an impressive -1 yards on 13 carries in the playoffs).
The teams with a young Matthew Stafford and Megatron and Ndamukong Suh were damned strong, and got screwed out of a playoff win.
I'm really not arguing that the Fords deserve no blame. They deserve a lot of it. But don't disregard the role that luck has played entirely.
We
Are
Cursed.
I'm not going to say SOL, because they are doing many positive things now, but there is a curse, for sure. Between horrible injury luck, refs and the league apparently hating them for some reason (or just favoring other teams more), and constant generalized incompetence, it's hard to see the Lions ever succeeding.
I mean hell, last year they found an amazing QB-OC tandem -- which won't last -- AND Goff stayed healthy through the whole season -- which won't happen again -- and they still missed the playoffs. Because of course they did.
It's crazy to ponder the idea of a curse, but there it is.
Interesting that Sorry out of Luck and Same Old Lions are the same acronym.
I always thought it was “shit out of luck.”
Curse?
However I do not see this guy:
Winning a Superbowl with what even the Rams had around him let alone the Lions.
When will people understand that the Lions will never be good? You will die without the Lions winning a playoff game. I guarantee it.
I'd happily take that bet, but the reality of it is...you would control the outcome. We shake hands today, you murder me tomorrow, you win.
I'll happily take a playoff game and don't care if they win at this point.
They've already won one, so I'll happily take that bet.
I want some action on this too.
Sources are now saying no Structural Damage from MRI, and is considered Day to Day.
Sounds like this’ll be a “keep him wrapped in bubble paper throughout the preseason” kind of situation.
Isn't that what they said about Blake Corum too? And he needed surgery later.
People around here really don’t like hearing the truth most of the time, do they? This site is getting a little too cultish.
I really appreciate when people can put their biases aside and have some self awareness with realistic view points.
