I would thing this is a good thing. Steal an asst coach from a team in our conference who have been beating us. He was coaching under Larry Brown when he was here, been an assistant for 15 years?
Could this sway Lebron to Detroit? Do him and Lebron have a good relationship?
Time will tell. However, this was a financially sound decision. Joe D basically said that he's not willing to pay a coach 4 million during a "rebuilding" process, or whatever you'd like to call it. He's done this before when Carlisle was sent packing for Larry Brown right before their championship run. Joe D is very self centered and erratic when it comes to daily basketball operations. I'm truely amazed that he has actually produced anything with this strategy.
I'm a little bit perturbed that part of the decision was based on who they could convince to take a two-year deal instead of the four-year one that Avery Johnson wanted. Johnson's the proven commodity, although he does sort of come off to me like his tenure would have ended the same way Doug Collins' did, so maybe it's not a complete loss.

Joe D. did settle.... but what we are getting is a great tactical coach (X's and O's), obviously decent communication skills....
Now the question is... does his have leadership and management skills and will he gain the respect of the players. At the end of the day.... He will only be successful with Pistons if that is the case...

I agree. Kuester was the "offensive" coach for a team whose offense in the playoffs became "Give the ball to LeBron and let him drive and draw a foul." Plus, because Dumars seems to throw every coach under the bus in two years, Kuester has the credibility and authority of a substitute teacher.
But hey, as you enter what you hope will be a simple bump in the road as you rebuild, why invigorate your fan base by hiring a fan favorite and Pistons legend in Laimbeer when you can set up your next fall guy in Kuester?
are you saying Curry wasn't a Pistons legend in his playing days!! Jk. I will say, however, that Kuester will be given a chance to prove himself before I start bitching about him.
I would have rather had Tom Thibodeau from Boston, but maybe that's just because I'd prefer the Pistons to be able to keep playing some defense.
I'll withhold judgment on Kuester. It's not as though the Cavs have had good coaching, but that might just be LeBron's influence on everything Cleveland related.
That we dont have enough inside knowledge of him. A big name coach is just that, a big name. Avery had the same issues as Curry did when it came to the type of relationship he had with his players. Larry Brown was stern but his players loved him and he loved his players. Either way we all agree that Curry had to go and this guy we dont know so much about. The jury is out and wont be decided til seasons end. Remember...all coaches were new coaches at some point in their career.

In no way did Davidson overreact. Larry Brown basically pulled a George Costanza and did everything he could to get fired. By the time he was canned, everyone in the organization, players included, was sick of dealing with him.
OTOH, Rick Carlisle got a pretty bum deal. The grounds for firing him were a lot flimsier.
