OT: All Star Game Voting

Submitted by Seth9 on
This year, it appears that the fan selections for both All Star teams will account for a total of zero incredibly stupid decisions. So long as Dustin Pedroia and Alfonso Soriano do not sneak into starting positions in the last couple days, there will be a legitimate starting lineup for both teams. http://detroit.tigers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090629&content_id=… http://detroit.tigers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090629&content_id=… That said, considering the rather poor selections made by fans in the past (i.e. Jason Varitek over Joe Mauer and Ivan Rodriguez), I think that it's best that fans do not get a vote so long as the All Star Game determines home field advantage in the World Series. Thoughts?

As if the NL stands a chance lately anyways? Its not like that Varitek vote changed the outcome at all. And there are some bonehead votes this year... namely Youkilis shouldn't even be in the top 5 first basemen. I'd have Victor Martinez in the 5 spot behind the other 4 (Teixeira, Morneau, Pena, and maybe Cabrera). Aaron Hill is being way overlooked in Toronto at 2nd. He's started to slow down the last 2 weeks which hasn't helped. His numbers are right there with Kinsler. Pedroia, again, a joke. Bartlett would be much closer to Jeter if he'd been healthy the last 2-3 weeks. That stretch on the DL probably set him back a starting spot. I can't imagine him not making the team. Josh Hamilton is also pretty poor on the fans. I'm hoping for a surge of Crawford votes. The guy's got 40 stolen bases already this season. But yeah, Tori Hunter would be just as good. As far as should fans vote, I don't think it really matters with as short of playing time as the starters get now-a-days. If the starters were in for 7+ innings, maybe. Even then, I think I want the manager to set up left handed or right handed line ups to go up against the starters (if they were to go more than 5 innings), too. If the starters (both pitching and defense) were in the game to win it, I'd just leave the fans with the "last guy on the roster" vote that comes out later in the week.
