Michigan Women's Tennis Swept by UCLA

Submitted by VCavman24 on

The Michigan Women's Tennis Team's season came to an end last night after the team was swept 4-0.  The initial start time for the match was 7:00 central, yet it didn't begin until 11:00.  Michigan played well in all of the matches, yet could only win one doubles flight.  All of the matches were close, and had a few points gone Michigan's way, Michigan could have advanced to their first ever elite eight.  This was a good season for Michigan, the only disappointment being that they lost to Northwestern in the Big Ten Tournament Finals for the eighth time in nine years.  Other than that, a good season.  Hopefully next year they can build upon their successes and advance to their first ever elite eight.  Go Blue!

Below are the flight-by-flight results:

argument. UM was close on #2 but UCLA came up with some good stuff to close it out. The higher ranked doubles team won. In singles..UCLA was better on both #1 & 2 and obviously on #6. UCLA was definitely the better team and match wasn't that close. Now onto the very good news. UM is close to becoming a final 4 participant next year. Everybody returns except Nguyen but more importantly UM has added a big time player in Laura Ucros. She is from Columbia and rated #43 in the ITF junior world rankings. She should compete for either the #1 or #2 spot which will push everyone down the ladder. Having Ronit Yurovsky and Bolender pushed down and then Amy Zhu at #6 spot makes UM really tough to beat. I believe Ucros has had success in doubles which should give UM a couple solid doubles teams. UM is a top 5 team going into next year.
