A little over 1 week ago one of my best friends was murdered while at work.  I've known the family for 25 years and you won't find better, more caring people anywhere.

From the gofundme page:

"Joey Vitale was very generous towards the community he served, including his ownership of Vitale's Burton Heights Pizza, was second only to the love and devotion he had for his family.  He leaves behind a large, loving family that includes his beloved wife, Christina and his two daughters Serafina (7) and Luciana (3).  Joey was an amazing father and husband.  He often boasted of having the best childhood and wanting to give the same to his girls. This showed daily as his little girl’s eyes lit up, just as his did, when he walked through the door and wrestled before bed every night, they were his favorite blessings"

A gofundme has been set up to help fund a trust for his children to help with school and expenses going forward.  Joey was a huge fan of the maize and blue and even though his wife is a Spartan she put away the green and white this past weekend and was at the big house with her daughter and brother in law supporting our boys in their victory over Wisconsin.

In typical leaders and best fashion, the University found out about the situation and sent his wife a very kind letter letting her know that the Michigan family is sorry for their loss and behind them.

The Mgoblog family is always so generous when it comes to causes like this.  I was hoping to reach out to my Michigan family and help alleviate some of the burden for this young family as they suffer through an incredibly hard time.

The Vitale family & my family have been good family friends for a long time. Being both Italian and from Grand Rapids, I grew up with Joey my whole life. His brother Jonny & him, were two kids I always thought were amaizeing. I was with Joe the Friday before this awful tragedy. Laughing and joking with him as he stood behind the counter of his fathers kitchen. His father was short staffed that night and the kitchen was swamped. He literally chased a pizza out the door (for my dad and I) because the delivery driver accidentally took it. He was a passionate Michigan fan, who truly resembled the motto of “The Team” (as the letter from UMich Athletics stated). He loved his family more than anything. He did everything for his family & then some.  He knew some families struggled financially in the area of his pizza place and would discount the pizza for them or give it to them for free. Joe, truly resembled what it takes to be a Michigan man! He will be deeply missed. #JoeBlue
