Michigan Insider – April Updates from the AD

Like many here, I receive periodic emails from “Those Who Go Blue” – the official email of Michigan Athletics.  The one from a couple of days ago caught my attention.  Here is a portion of the update from Warde:

Congratulations to Ronni Bernstein and our women’s tennis program on our 11th Big Ten championship over the weekend against Ohio State. Just the third women’s tennis coach in Big Ten history to win at least 10 conference titles,

Also, men’s gymnastics represented us well over the weekend with a second-place finish at the NCAA Championships. Paul Juda earned the Nissen-Emery Award as the national gymnast of the year. At the same time, freshman Fred Richard claimed three individual national championships in the all-around competition, high bar, and parallel bars. Fred is the third Wolverine in program history to win three NCAA titles.

Also, last week, ice hockey freshman Adam Fantilli claimed the Hobey Baker Award as the national player of the year in that sport. With Mason Parris (wrestling), Sierra Brooks (women’s gymnastics), and Paul Juda (men’s gymnastics), Michigan now boasts national players of the year in four different sports!

(emphasis mine)

Some of these honors are mentioned in previous posts, but seeing all these national players of the year is really something our program can boast about!

Go Blue indeed.

Just imagine if Blake Corum had remained healthy and won the Heisman.

Michigan men's (Josh Zawada) and women's (Maddie Burns and Jill Smith) lacrosse have players on the watch list for the Tewaaraton Award, given to the top men's and women's college lacrosse players. So there might be more hardware coming to Ann Arbor.
