Great stuff on MGoBlue

2300 hours spent at Mott Children’s Hospital.

Michigan MBB is ranked #6 in the country in community service. That’s great to see from a Big 3 sport.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- In a recently released 2019-20 report, the Helper Helper app ranked University of Michigan athletics 10th among the more than 100 Division I athletic departments that use the app and No. 1 in the Big Ten for hours of community service performed.

The men's programs ranked a combined fourth overall, and the women's programs combined for fifth. More than 100 Division I schools track their community-engagement hours through the Helper Helper app.

"Our student-athletes accomplish amazing feats academically and athletically at one of the most competitive universities in the country," said Colette Hemker, Michigan's assistant director of leadership and community engagement. "What they've achieved in service to our community by their own volition is absolutely incredible and speaks volumes about their character. They make us proud on a daily basis."

Two Michigan teams ranked in the top five among all Division I teams in the report with the men's track and field and cross country teams ranking fourth and women's gymnastics ranking fifth across all sports.

In individual-sport rankings, five U-M teams (men's gymnastics, women's gymnastics, men's lacrosse, rowing and men's track and field) were ranked No. 1 while six more (cheer, ice hockey, men's soccer, men's swimming and diving, water polo and wrestling) ranked second.

Also ranking in the top five in their respective sports were baseball, field hockey, women's lacrosse and women's track and field at No. 4. Men's basketball (No. 6), women's swimming and diving (No. 6), and women's tennis (No. 8) also were among the top-10 programs for their sport.

Michigan student-athletes recorded more than 2,300 hours of visits to C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, more than 1,000 hours to a holiday giving drive and more than 500 hours to VA Ann Arbor as some of the top community outreach programs. Nine teams were involved with Team IMPACT, and several others participated in pen pal programs with local schools.
