How do you get so many items signed by these players?

I must say I would love to get my hands on some of these items, but there are way too many fake signatures out there. I understand you guys are somehow affiliated with the university, but how do you guarantee that these are genuine?

1) We have a group of 25 to 30  alums working on this project. With a very few exceptions most share one or more of the following:

  a) Almost all are Kinesiology grads, Before 2005 almost all Michigan football, hockey and basketball players at least started in if not, graduated from Kinesiology. Now they're mostly in LS&A. In many cases we're just asking friends and in the case of 5 committee members, they're asking former teammates.

  b) Many of the athletes were former students of professor Maloy or advisees of Shelly Kovacs, two of the people those scholarships are in honor of. Needless to say they're happy to sign for a good cause that is close to their hearts.

  c) Most of the people on our committee work in sports. Usually in league offices, team front offices or as agents. Its as easy as going down to the locker room of their own team or when another team is in visiting or having their clients sign for us.

You also have to remember that almost all of these guys come back to campus often. Whether its to catch a game in the fall or come in for one of the many golf tournaments during the summer, they come by and, as I said, its just a matter of a few phone calls and a ten minute meet up with one of the local committee members.

In some cases we go out to meet former players at their job. One member met with Mark Messner at his office. Another got clearance to meet with Anthony Carter at his home and he signed the stuff right in the driveway of his home.

I actually got that one this past summer when Zoltan was in town for Brandon Kornblue's kicking academy. We had someone come forward and offered to make a donation if and only if I could get something signed by Zoltan that included both his signature and the inscription "Space Emporer".   I brought it to Zoltan and he was cool with it. He said he had heard about that nickname but had no idea what it meant or how or where it came about. Regardless, he signed it but the guy who made the offer to donate flaked on us so its up on the auction board. Think its only at $80 right now.
