Meta: depth chart request

Submitted by tasnyder01 on

For a while now, I've thought of ways to make the "Depth Chart by Class" and "Unofficial Two-Deep" more user friendly. I thought about perhaps adding certain stats about the players, like their height or weight for example.  However, I didn't know how to ask: should we just make a very long table with the players' measureables, or should we have a side-table? Anyways, I think this is something which would help a lot of us out, giving us some addititonal information on the players, and consolidating that information into a quick view for everyone. The only problem has been: how to do so?

But I think Ace (or Brian, or Seth, not sure whose idea this was) came up with a solution. We could use those "Black links" from the front page (where you scroll over the link, and it shows the etymology of the word/phrase) with the players' data. That is, we could have the "Two-Deep" and "Depth Chart by Class" filled with this information, which we could instantly access or leave, depending on our wishes. Simply scroll over a player's name, and you'll get his experience (for the two deep), or measurements (for both).

Some ideas on which information to provide:

1.) Experience (for the "Two-Deep")
2.) Height/Weight/40-time
3.) Strengths (EG, for RB: power, or speed)
4.) Possible position switches

I'm sure this isn't a full list of what the users want, and someone will come up with a correction. Also, this might be premature, as we're about to engage in the tourney for B-Ball. Nevertheless, I think it's a good offseason task for the mods, IF people want it. This might just be a pet-peeve of mine, or it might be something which could easily be added by the mods to make this site better. . . I'm not sure. So, what say you, MGoCommunity?

I love the idea for the height and weight.  It's not much harder to go to mgoblue.com for the info, but it would be great to be able have it right there when looking at the depth chart by class or two deep.

I don't think items 1,3 and 4 are needed.

The way I do those links is I downloaded a plug-in to WLive.

What sort of info would you want in the mouseover? To do that I'd have to basically rebuild the stickies in Wlive.

You can do it manually with the acronym tag. Example:

<acronym title="You might remember me from such players as">YMRMFSPA</acronym>

Ends up looking like this:

YMRMFSPA
