M Soccer silences Ohio State in Columbus

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

This game went final last night just when Football was about to start their game, but #23 Michigan Men's Soccer pulled off a huge win last night.

Chaka Daley, who has missed the tournament the last 4 years and had the worst season in program history last year in his 5th season, has appeared to have righted the ship. Unbelievably.

OSU had their football bye week so they had a large crowd for this game. And they all went home unhappy.

Jack Hallahan gave Michigan a 1-0 lead just 10 minutes in. Hallahan would again make a play and get the ball to Mo Zakyi who buried it for the goal in the 35th minute.

The defense was phenomenal. They hunkered down and prevented any OSU goals. Backup goalie Henry Mashburn had to made zero saves, he is now 2-0 in his career.

Michigan improved to 9-4-2 overall and 5-1-1 in the B1G. Michigan has clinched a top 4 seed in the B1G Tournament and more importantly, home field for the quarterfinals. The Wolverines sit at 13th in the RPI and will most likely make the NCAA Tournament for the first time since Chaka's first year.

Michigan hosts Detroit on Wednesday night on Senior Day and then closes out the regular season at #3 Maryland a week from today.

Congrats on a nice win. We pay so much attention to football but other sports are more deserving right now. Michigan fans better pack crisler for the season opener when we hang another banner. Shame on us if we don’t.

Crisler Center will be very empty to start the season as it usually is.  Hopefully if the Maui Tournament goes well they can build momentum and fan interest for the Saturday afternoon games at Crisler against Indiana and UCLA in early December.

I know it will and that’s disgusting honestly. Basketball has been the better sport every year for the past 10 years yet some Michigan fans always doubt them and take them for granted. They are a far superior program than the football program. Beilein beats his rivals and hangs banners with average talent while football gets “5 stars and 4 stars” whatever the fuck that means and we get our asses handed to us

Great win! Go Blue!

We are still in the race for the Big Ten regular season championship!

In soccer, teams get 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, and 0 points for a loss.

With one game left in the season, Michigan sits in second place with 16 points (5-1-1) only 1 point behind a three-way tie for first at 17 points between Indiana, Maryland and MSU (5-0-2). Previously, Michigan tied with Indiana and lost to MSU in overtime.

Michigan State hosts Indiana next weekend while Michigan travels to Maryland.

Therefore, if:

  • MSU and Indiana tie each other
  • Michigan defeats Maryland

The Wolverines will win the Big Ten Championship outright with 19 points (MSU and IU would tie for second with 18 points and Maryland would be fourth with 17).
